I recently purchased a 01 LE Pathfinder, and I am expericing the "Dreaded Shimmy". I have scrolled through all 3000+ messages seeking topics in reference to this Shimmy issue. I have found some topics on this issue, but I need some assistance. Please reply if you have had this problem and had found a way to resolve it. I have only 400 miles on my Pathy and I brought it in to the Dealership to fix it. They balanced the tires and the shimmy is still there. I asked for a copy of the Nissan Service Bulletin NTB00-061 and asked them to address the issues presented in the document. I then took the service rep with me for a ride and showed him the Shimmy. I had a glass of water in the vehicle and showed the ripples of water that the shimmy caused and that you could clearly feel the Vibration, in the seat, armrest, and steering wheel, especially at speeds between 35-45 mph, but more so, at 45-55 mph. They told me that in their opinion that vehicle drives fine and there is no problem and so go away. I called Nissan's 800 number, but they did not help. I have owned a Nissan Pickup SE since 1994 and I have never had a Shimmy issue. I have Dunlop tires and I was wondering if I should just replace the tries with a higher quality tire such as Michelin. Some of you mentioned having the tires Index Balanced? What is this? Also, some of you have mentioned adjusting the steering rack could also help. Lastly, how did you get Nissan to resolve this matter? Please help!!!!!!
I just did my 1st oil change last week on my 2001 PF SE AWD. What a piece of cake...the oil filter is EASILY accessible after the floor shield is removed (8-10 screws). The oil plug is fully accessible also. All this WITHOUT jacking up the truck.
This is the 2nd oil change for the truck...the 1st change was a freebie by the dealer. I went to Mobil 1 synthetic oil with a Fram filter...my odo is at 6400 km (4000 miles). I don't know why there is so much scuttlebutt about putting synthetic oil in too early? No probs at all here!
I put in a K&N air filter when odo read 1000 miles. Everything seems great at this time.
I just returned on a trip from Toronto to Cleveland...put 1500 km (900 miles) on the odo..averaged 65 mph and peaked out at 95 mph...truck is a fine machine! Just gotta watch out for the smokies on I-90 in Pennsylvania.
I have a 2001 LE with 5500 Km. (3300M) and have noticed that the leather on the driver's seat has developed a severe crease. In fact the leather has folded over. I worry that in time it will crack, especially in cold weather. Has anyone else had this problem and how is it fixed? Is it a warrantee item? I have not taken it to the dealer yet.
My last few cars had leather seats including my PF and they all will develop little creases, especially the drivers side for obvious reasons. You should use a leather conditioner to keep your leather soft and from cracking due to the sun etc. I use Lexol and it works well.
I can't say enough about "Air Lift" air springs they make the Pathfinder more of a truck. I have the air bags, compressor & gauge.
Did anyone come up with the URL link to the grill guard that was posted som time ago. It also was a GOOD THING.
