#2165 of 2303 1997 Isuzu Rodeo - Electrical Problem by brown703

I have a 97 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 V6. About 2wks ago alternator belt broke. While able to drive it home, had no fan blower, brake light was on, as well as battery light. Replaced belt and all went away.

2 days ago, battery light on again and same brake light and no fan blower. Replaced alternator with reman from Advanced Auto, still same problems. Alternator tested fine on the bench, but fails test while in vehicle. Advanced Auto suggested factory alternator vs. reman! Anyone had this problem?

Jasen; I have a 97 Rodeo with nearly the same problem. I have replaced the alternator, however heard that a factory original alternator does the trick. I have ordered a Beck/Arnley alternator and waiting on its arrival to try it. Have you any solution to your problem?

I know an O2 sensor is an Oxygen sensor. This is located underneath in the exhaust system. I own a 1995 (bought new) and currently have 190,000 miles on it. I never had to chnage this part out, but from what I hear should not be difficult depending on your skills of taking things apart. But it is an Oxygen sensor and has something to do with fuel economy. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

The problem is, there are 4 Oxygen sensors....I need to know which of the 4 is bank 1 number 1.

After 3 alternators, all remanufactured I might add, I went to a local auto electric shop and had a new alternator ($330.00) put on and all troubles are gone! From what I was told all remanufactured alternators have voltage regulators that are not up to par as reman alternators have bad voltage regulators in them. On the Rodeo and Passport, the voltage regulators are grounded to the Engine Control Module. The Heater/AC blower is also grounded here also, so when the alternator is not charging, the blower doesn't work.

On the right side of this type of alternator, there is a plug connection. The alternator has the "male" terminals, while the "female" terminals are from the vehicles electrical system. One of the "male" terminals, known as the "C" terminal, connects the voltage regulator to the ECM (engine control module). As stated previously, in remanufactured alternators, the voltage regulators appear to be faulty, a problem that has been in exsistence since the 1980's, whereas the voltage regulators do not emit the proper voltage.

While I did get all of the remanufactured alternators from Advance Auto Parts, they obviously do not remanufacture them, so it is not really Advance Auto Parts blame, however I wonder why they continue to sell them, as a recall has been previously issued regarding this problem.

I am confident that if the alternator for these vehicles are replaced with a completely new one, not remanufactured, this problem should cease to exsist!

My 96 rodeo started to overheat after the valve cover gasket was replaced. Never had a problem with overheating before. Mechanic worked on it for 4 days trying to get the air out of the system (BY burping it). Installed new thermostat, couple of heater hoses, flushed the radiator but no change. When the engine cools, you can hear gurgling noise from the 2 main hoses around the thermostat and the one out of the thermostat feels cooler than the other one. I Would appreciate if anybody with similar problem and the right way to fix it could respond. Thank you.

Hey folks! My back up lights in my Rodeo 95 stop "working" and I don't have any idea where to locate the fuse or relay to exchange it! If someone knows where to look for I'll appreciate that help! Thanks, Pablo.

Hello Pablo! I had the work done at an auto electric shop here in Columbus, Ohio. The mechanic ordered the new alternator for me and put it on! He stated that this has been an ongoing problem with these cars since the 1980's. Use the following link to contact the mechanic and reference Doug Brown (me) and Im sure he will talk to you. He was a really nice guy and knew what he was talking about!
