2001 Honda Passport Transmission Problem by rangerboy

I have a 2001 Honda Passport that is having a problem shifting between first and second gears. It's also not climbing hills very easily. Engine is stalling out or not engaging. I've read that it might be some transmission sensor or maybe even the alternator. Has anyone out there had a similar problem?

This sounds like it can be a serpentine belt (i'm not sure if they used 1 belt or 2 in '95 models). See if any of the belts are loose or missing teeth.

Turned out to be the Alternator. (It also was not shifting down to 1st - had to manually put it in Low to start out.) All's well again...

Did you ever find out how to bleed the clutch. Having same problem and ready to pull out hair! If you have any ideas on how to bleed the darn thing would you reply?

Hi Izusudave,

I apologize for not seeing your post sooner. My problem was that I slightly installed the clutch incorrectly. The Rodeo uses a pull clutch rather than the traditional push method. That means that when the clutch is installed, the release bearing has to be inserted into the actual clutch so that when the clutch is depressed, it pulls the release bearing, which pulls the clutch away from the flywheel and disengages the engine. I had not done this previously, so the pressure I was feeling was just the clutch fork not having any more room to pull backward. After I got the release bearing snapped in, everything worked perfectly.

As far as bleeding the system, it is farily easy to do. Let me know if you need help with that aspect of the diagnosis.

2001 RODEO LSE OWNERS MANUAL! by bucsngoofy

IF ANYONE HAPPENS TO ACTUALLY HAVE THE OWNERS MANUAL FOR THEIR 2001 RODEO LSE, COULD YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHICH FUSE I NEED TO PULL FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL? I KNOW IT'S IN THE PANEL TO THE LEFT OF THE STEERING WHEEL, WHICH I NEVER WOULD HAVE SEEN WITHOUT THE DOOR ALL THE WAY OPEN! I'M HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CRUISE GOING ON ALL BY ITSELF AND THEN THE ENGINE DIES IF I DON'T SEE IT LIT UP ON THE DASH AND DISENGAGE IT MANUALLY. I WANT TO SEE IF THIS WILL FIX THE PROBLEM OR IF IT'S SOMETHING ELECTRICAL. NOTHING COMES UP ON THE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK SO I'M WONDERING.....

1998 Rodeo transmission not shifting by wtrash_99

Hello, I've got a 1998 Rodeo. IT has been a great vehicle for about 4 years, and we have never had a problem....untill the other day. Well I drove the rodeo to work and everything was fine. When I left work and started out of the parking lot the transmission acted as though it was stuck in 1ST gear. The engine just revs and the truck moves but never shifts. Then the check trans light started blinking.
I checked the engine codes with a scan tool and found that it had a dtc code number P0722 which was a code for the output speed sensor. I did several checks and decided the speed sensor was bad and replaced it. This did not fix the problem. I have since noticed that the backup lights are not working and the gear indicator on the dash is not lighting up. I have read in other places that this could all be caused by the mode switch on the side of the transmission but I am not sure and would rather not just throw parts at the truck. Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks

Okay... I'm not automotive genius, but I have been able to fix a few things on cars or vehicles over the years. So, forgive me if I seem stupid or ask stupid questions.

My girlfriend has a '96 Isuzu Rodeo V6 4WD that the starter has begun clicking when you try to start it. Usually if you keep clicking away (turning the ignition key) it will eventually start. I know it has something to do with the starter and please understand that both of us are very "financially challenged" at the moment, so a cheap fix would be the best one for now.

I've read in this forum and in the general forum about similar symptoms and have read conflicting suggestions or answers. I've heard where one person said it was definitely the starter and then another said it was probably the starter solenoid. I've gathered some information from here to check the connections and do a little troubleshooting, but even some of that information has been sporadic and inconsistent. I've seen starters for this make and model of Isuzu that you can actually purchase the individual parts for the starter, so I could potentially narrow that price down to less than $20, if it truly IS the solenoid. A local friend of mine seemed convinced that the clicking starter symptom was generally a bad solenoid.

The car will start, but not until you click it a few times.

Any advice, suggestions, links, guides, or trouble-shooting tips to narrow down specifically what is wrong with the starter and/or the solenoid, would be greatly appreciated.

mate im an aprentice mechanic. this noise normally means i get the battery tester(computer) i tell it your batterys cca (cold cranking amps) and the computer tells me weather the battery is rooted or not. id say its just a new battery that would fix it. dont go dodgy and get a cheap Kmart 1. get the correct 1 for the car. just get a mechanic to test the battery for further diagnosis of your problem.

just bought a 85 KB rodeo. gonna throw in a big cam twin carbs and twin high power coils. forged pistons and machined higher compression head and block. so far all ive done is extractors.
