#694 of 6471 Tahoe Z71 for sgbassin ...
Feb 20, 2001 (6:28 pm)
I think there is a little bit of a stiffer ride on the Z71. I also know they offer heavy-duty, off-road shocks on the Z71 plus some flares and a little extra sporty, off-road features.
But I might have some bad news, I have yet to find a 2001 Z71 Tahoe. No one around here has any. All the New Jersey dealers say Chevy has finished production this season and won't start again for several months.
If you know of anyone who has a 2001 version, please let me know. Pretty please!
I think the Tahoe with the Z71 package is really sporty looking and I definitely like it the best.
It's also a little cheaper when considering the LT and LS models. I think they run around $34,500 or so.
#695 of 6471 Yukon Mirrors Vibrating / Distorted vision
Feb 20, 2001 (7:12 pm)
I have a 2000 Yukon that has been in for servicing 19 times in 9 months and has had 27 different problems. The worst is that the drivers side mirror vibrates when idling and worse when driving over 90km. Also when you look through the mirror the view is distorted(double vision). My dealer has replaced the mirror 3 times and now says they refuse to repair this problem anymore. All courtesy cars(Yukon and YukonXL) supplied to me have the same problem. Anyone with a similar problem? Please email me at lisaleavenshome.com

Is it the idle or the mirror causing the problem?

I did consider the Suburban, instead of the Yukon XL, but decided against it based
on the styling of the Chevy. I really like the hood, grill, body mouldings, and the fact
that there are tons of Chevys out there and GMC is a little different.
As far as dealers go, no, I have not had any bad experience with this dealer, nor
have I had a lick of trouble out of my XL, and for that reason have not had it in for
service. I give three chances at it and after that I look for another dealer if not
satisfied. I just can't stand incompitance I guess. When I take something in and
they tell me it's fixed and it isn't it really burns me up.
For example my wife took her S-10 in for service on the ABS system, the light
would come on spuratically, they CHARGED her $25 to look at it, pull the wheels,
and check all the brakes, put it on the computer and supposedly fixed it. Well the
brakes didn't work right still, on ice no ABS, wheels locked up and slid, go figure.
Took it back and the tech said that if all 4 wheels lock up it will do that!! As
everyone knows ANTI-LOCK means what it says no locking up of any wheel. Took it
home and decided to do a little poking around, I found a loose ground wire to the
ABS motor, now as a dealer they should have checked for that and didn't. The real
killer to the whole thing was when I took it back and showed them the problem, they
wouldn't refund the $25 because they adjusted the rear shoes, even though the rear
shoes had nothing to do with the problem!!! Another time she had an oil cooler line
leak and it would lose a quart every ten miles, the dealer was not going to give a
loaner and told her it was safe to drive, until I told him I would fill it with oil and drive
it until it locked up and he would have to change the engine do to dealer negligence,
and poor advise. I already had the paperwork that said made an apointment and
bring it in 2 days later, so he would have been responsible, not the waranty
company. Then he coughed up a loaner, amazing! These are two different
dealerships and two different problems. Should I have had to go back or get "nasty"
as one dealer put it to get the job done right? I don't think so.
I feel as a consumer I should not have to put up with poor service when making
such a large purchase, sales is one thing but no matter how nice the sales person
is, they will not be fixing your vehicle nor providing a loaner, so service is where it
counts. These are the kinds of experiences I have had at the dealers, I just want to
take it to a shop where they get it done right the first time, no hassles, no
Sorry for the long post, it is something that really burns my cookie when someone
takes your money and then could give a care less what happens to you, and your

Did you by chance receive an email from one of the hosts regarding the P.S. part of your post. When reading it I was kind of chuckling cause I have also received one of those emails.
#700 of 6471 Yukon mirrors vibrating and distorted
Feb 21, 2001 (12:10 pm)
The mirror problem is definitely the mirror.(the idle problem is separate and happens mostly when the car is cold). As soon as you increase your speed(above 90K) the vibration gets worse. Service dept says they have checked the mirror and find no faults (loose parts etc.)The distortion problem is that when you look in your dr side mirror it looks as if you are seeing double. Also anyone have any problems with all trim pieces finished in silver rusting??? Dealer says it is because I failed to polish the trim and will not repair.

FYI, I had also emailed for clarification and got NO response....
If I remember correctly, the dealer is correct that there is no fix for this vibrating mirror.
#702 of 6471 Multi-disc changer & ONSTAR
Feb 21, 2001 (2:51 pm)
After no luck with two GMC dealerships, GMC Customer Service, or Delplhi Delco Electronics web site, I successfully had a mult-disc changer installed in my 2001 Yukon that did not require disabling ONSTAR and works with the radio controls. Previously I was told that only an FM modulator CD player would work or I would have to disable ONSTAR for a linked version. No one seemed to have the proper cables or knowledge. What a relief to finally have a 12 disc changer!!
