My Odometer started to malfunction back in 02/06. It would not give the correct speed. The Dealer R&R it for me under the factory warrantee. I never could get an answer to the question I had about the new Odometer. Was it Repaired, Replaced with a new Odometer, or just the part repaired or replaced? My hours on the hour meter had 279 hours less than it did when I brought it in to be repaired. I know this as a fact, as I wrote down the hours, miles, etc when I dropped it off and again when I picked it up.
Now the Hour Meter for some unknown reason last month went from 1600 hours to 0 hours. I had just had the Dealer upgrade my OnStar System to Digital. Prior to that everything was and still is working ok.
I'm out of my Factory warrantee and it has been over 12 months since the Dealer R&R the Odometer.
I thought I recall reading something on here about a lawsuit against Chevy for this problem that they continue to have with their Odometers and refusing to recall them?
I have not yet contacted the dealer to see if they can do anything about this. I really don't know if it matters, since it is just the hour meter and it is functioning right for now. I think that the problem might have something to do with OnStar and when they tap into the vehicle computer. They send me a monthly email, which goes into great detail about my Tahoe's systems, tires, etc. They can only do this by hacking into the vehicle computer. So I'm wondering if they are the cause of my hour meter going from 1600 hours to 0 hours.
I've had a lot of issues with OnStar lately and they seem to have quit a bit of problems. I'm not complaining about the OnStar Phone services. I like the OnStar Telephone and services that come with it. It's more issues with wrongful billing and charging my credit card without my permission or request, etc.

My 2004 Chevy Tahoe Z71 has the 4 Button setup. The top button is for AWD. The button below that are 2Hi. The below that is 4Hi. The button below that are 4Lo.
I normally have mine in 2Hi 99 percent of the time.
The only time that you might use AWD is when the roads are icy, snow, sand, etc. on special occasion.
Then when your 4 wheeling of course you put it into 4Hi. This can be done at any speeds up to the manual says 55mph. I have forgotten a couple of times to take it out of 4Hi and was on the Hwy going 55mph when I realized it and switched it over to 2Hi. I would not recommend this all the time. There was no problems and it shifted from 4Hi to 2Hi easily and with no problems.
Then there's the Awesome 4Lo. If you like to do some serious 4 wheeling and climb Rocks, go through deep sand, etc. put it into 4Lo and have fun. If I remember correctly, you have to be going less than 5 mph or stopped to put it into 4Lo. It's been awhile since I've had mine in 4Lo so Iím not 100% sure. It could be both or you might have to be stopped and in Neutral or Park. I think that it is the later and you have to be stopped if I recall correctly. Which is good in some ways. If youíre stuck in the sand or snow and can not move then being able to put your transfer case into 4Lo would probably get you unstuck.

They, meaning GM, is not exactly "hacking" into your vehicle's computer. When you signed up for OnStar you gave them the right to use that information for any purpose GM chooses. Your OnStar system is sending that info to GM every day, also your location, and a lot of other info too. Welcome to the 21st century. If you don't want GM "hacking" then cancel your OnStar service.

GM can obtain the info even if you cancel your onstar subscription. The equipment is still active and they can access the data anytime they want. The feds tried to use that feature under the Homeland Security Act. At first onstar declined but I understand they have changed their attitude, same with Western Union, FedEx and UPS.

The service manager at the Chevrolet dealer advised me to call the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center. The phone number is in the owners manual. The phone number is also probably listed on the Chevrolet website.

I was having the infamous hard 1-2 shift in my 2000 Yukon. 144K trouble-free miles, I might add, so I can't really complain.
Anyway, since it wasn't setting an engine light (however, it would pop an 1870 code if you drove it with the computer plugged in while driving)...I thought I'd get a replacement valve body from a transmission company on Ebay. Sounded great, new Sonnax TCC valve, fixes 1870 code...blah blah blah.
MISTAKE. Big mistake. I paid $200 for the valve body. $150 to have it installed. It shifted hard, so I paid another $100 to pull the pan down and adjust the pressure solenoid. Bottom line: it was worse than when I started. Instead of harsh 1-2 shifts once in a great while, I was having constant upshift/downshift at about 40-50 MPH, it drove me nuts!
So after $450 wasted, I ordered a brand new GM Goodwrench transmission and had my mechanic install it. Luckily wife's family works for GM and I was able to get the employee discount on parts, so that made it a little easier to handle.
So learn from my mistake...you can try just replacing the valve body, but if you do I strongly suggest a new, OEM valve body, not one that's been "redone" by a transmission company.

My Yukon is getting up in years, and while she still looks as good as new, I'm probably going to give it to my daughter when she's driving in another year or so.
I'm torn between buying a Tahoe Z71 (probably a 2003-05 model) or a used Toyota Sequoia. Anyone with ownership experience with the Sequoia wants to give an opinion, I'd be grateful.
We bought my wife an '07 FJ Cruiser in August of last year, it's got 20,000 miles and other than being too small for me, I'm very impressed with Toyota. Great build quality, no squeaks or rattles, very reliable. I was hoping to get some owner's opinions on the Sequoia as well.

Yep, good idea. I doubt that I'll find someone on either forum that has owned both a Tahoe and a Sequoia.
