Clunking Noise Under Hood/Felt In Steering Wheel (Replace Upper Strg Shaft Assm) #00-02-35-003
Clunking Noise Under the Hood and can be felt in the Steering Wheel (Replace the Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Assembly)
1999-2000 Chevrolet and GMC C2/K1/K2 Pickup Models (Silverado and Sierra)
2000 Chevrolet and GMC C/K Utility Models (Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon, Yukon XL)
With Recirculating Ball-Type Steering
Some customers may comment on a clunk type noise coming from under the hood that also can be felt in the steering wheel. These conditions may be more noticeable when turning at low speeds on rough road surfaces.
A new upper intermediate steering shaft assembly has been developed to correct these conditions. Replace the upper intermediate steering shaft assembly on affected vehicles with the new upper intermediate steering shaft assembly P/N 26085548. Use the following service procedure and part number listed below.
Set the front wheels in the straight-ahead position.
Set the steering wheel in the LOCK position.
From inside the vehicle, remove the upper bolt from the upper intermediate steering shaft (1) to the steering column connection.
From under the hood, remove the lower bolt that connects the upper intermediate shaft to the steering gear coupling shaft.
Remove the upper intermediate steering shaft assembly.
From inside the vehicle, slide the shaft down and off the steering column shaft.
From under the hood, slide the shaft towards the dash in order to disengage the shaft from the steering gear coupling shaft.
From inside the vehicle, slide the upper intermediate shaft through the dash boot seal and remove the shaft.
Install the upper intermediate steering shaft through the dash boot seal and slide the lower end into the steering gear coupling shaft.
Raise the upper end of the intermediate steering shaft and install into the steering column shaft.
Install the upper bolt and nut. Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).
Install the lower bolt and nut. Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

If anyone has an opinion, either positive, or negative, please state it concerning the netural insert door panel handles and the matching lower dash panel.
I feel that it looks terrible on the cloth seat vehicles, and bearable on the leather vehicles,
Do anyone have an opinion?

Looking to buy this month a new replacement for my 97 Tahoe. I have been pulling a 8000 BB Boat and trailer on 230 mile trips to the West Coast (FL) and it pulls fine. (3:42 and sized down tires from 245 to 235-70-16's. gives me a 3:60 ratio now.) I also tow a 7500 l. Travel Trailer. Comparing the Denali to the 2500 LX, I feel the Denali (8500 tow rating), would ride better and turn sharper. The 2500 has the longer wheel base, but I have not had a problem with the 97 Tahoe pulling with the shorter wheel base. I like the 6000 engine, 3:73 axle and improved ID Denali cranny, but the 2500/4:10 ratio, has a bigger cranny and heaver frame. Any advise on choosing between the two, cost not being a factor, other than fuel consumption.???

A new body style Yukon (2000 or newer) is far superior to a Ford Expedition. I think Motor Trend did a write up. No comparision.
The Ford drives like a TRUCK but the Yukon is smooth.
I've got 12K miles on my Yukon. The truck just went back to the dealer for the first time for the steering clunk noted above. Otherwise the truck is outstanding in overall quality.... especially considering it's a first year of produciton vehicle.
The Expedition is not a well thought out truck. Ford has said the it was simply a blown out Explorer (and who would want that?).
Drive the two trucks... If you do, I'd be shocked if you went with the Ford.

I replaced it with a MY2000 320...I had a hard time justifying the price difference of the 430. Bigger engine but I didn't like the ride as well and I'm don't tow anything.

From the numbers you provided, I would definitely opt for the 2500 Yukon XL. If your trailer is at 7500, the Yukon XL 2500 has bigger brakes along with the tranny and frame. Makes for a lot safer towing though the Denali would make it more comfortable. Depends on what you want but at 7500 I would go with a 3/4 ton.

If you are looking for best towing performance the choice is clear--go with the 2500 from GMC or Chevy. The 3/4 ton vehicles have tougher frames, bigger brakes, higher load capacity tires, leaf spring rear suspension (which is better for towing heavy trailers) and a host of other features which make them the clear towing choice. If you are really serious, you can opt for the 8.1 liter engine (as I did) for best towing performance. If off-road/bad road/bad weather use causes you to want 4X4 capability, the system used on the 2500 is a tougher and more capable system. The full-time system on the Denali is optimized for on-road use.
The Denali is a great vehicle, but it is skewed toward lighter duty. What is amazing is how they have civilized the 2500s. They now drive and ride much like a 1/2 ton or even better. I recommend you drive one of the 2500s at your friendly local dealer. You'll be surprised.

Hey, Kevin I too have had the window freeze problem,'01 Yukon, but only when it was extremely cold outside and the day before some snow and ice had melted off of the top and windows and froze on the window track. I too was a little worried about forcing the window open but when I did it did not hurt anything "I had to get that fast food".

What year is the truck that the altezza taillights are for? If it is a new generation Yukon / Burb / Hoe, or even P/U, can you post some pictures? And why do Platinum plugs need to be changed at 10,000 miles?

I was reading the post about these 2 vehicles.
I have had an Expedition and am also thinking about another. Although I love the looks of the new Yukon, I will be leasing. As far as I can tell the payments between the 2 vehicles for 36 months are about $100 more/month for the Yukon, without leather, etc. The Expedition is the Eddie Bauer version.
Is anyone interested in sharing some lease payment comparisons for the Yukon? Thanks!
