I know that some of you have had this problem and there is now a fix for it. Here it is-

Some customers may comment that the rear wiper jumps when the fog lamps are turned on.
Electrical feedback from the fog lamp circuit into the ground of the rear window washer pump may cause this condition.
To perform this correction, you will need to obtain the following items:
* A J 38125-B Terminal Repair Kit. Obtain the following parts from the kit.
o P/N 12077411 (Terminal) from tray #2
o P/N 12089496 (Ring Terminal) from tray #5
* A 508 mm (20 in) length of Black, 0.5 mm (20 gauge) or 0.8 mm (18 gauge) wire

I searched for a month to get my '02 z71 - I located a white one - my mileage is barely 12.5 city and some highway - I immediately replaced my factory muffler with a flowmaster 50 series 3" in and dual 2.5 inch out exiting on both sides of the hitch... I would not want any suspension other than the Z-71 - the differences in the ride ( firm ) versus plushy - are only really felt as you hit the expansion strips - and then only minimally - however the monochrome look - and the 17" wheels and tires set it apart from the other 93% of Tahoe sales - I would appreciate any mileage info from others though - thanks - cactus bob

I now have about 6000 miles on my second 2002 Z71 (3.73 diff), and with 100% city driving I get about 14.5. Mileage doesn't change too much until I get over 50% highway. At 100% highway I can squeak out 17 if I don't drive my typical 80 MPH. I drive it maybe a little harder than average, but I don't floor it when the light turns green... Also, I live in Atlanta, and up until yesterday it's been quite hot, and I think "summer gas" is still being served up. I'm interested in seeing what my mileage does in the cooler months.
My first Tahoe was totalled with only 1600 miles on it (sniff...), but I think I got a touch higher mileage on it. Only difference was that the first one had 30 miles on it, and the second one was driven 550 miles (FL to SC to GA, all highway) before I got it. Wondering if that's why I get worse mileage...

My 96 2 Dr Tahoe w/ 102K miles on it has developed a problem. The AC/Heater fan in the dash only runs continuously on high setting. On other settings, it goes on and off on intervals ranging from 30 sec to 90 secs.
Any idea? Do I need to replace the fan switch assembly? Is it easy to do? Should I just take it to a dealer to get it fixed (hate to think of what they will charge me)?

I experience this problem also, more of a nuisance than anything else. I would be interested in knowing more about this fix, could you post more details about this?

I would print out the information on the bulliten and bring it to your dealer and have them perform the fix. Ours has jumped only 1 time that I know of so I haven't bothered with the fix.

We are trying to find a solution to the rapid decay of the front disc brakes on our 1999 C2500 Suburban. Evidently the problem came when Chevy switched from asbestos brakes to a softer shoe. We change the brakes out every 8,000 to 10,000 miles. This is CRAZY!
We executed the Safety Bulletin from Chevy and are getting another 2k per brake set, but this still is not what we expect.
Does anyone know of a solution from inside the GM parts store? Or a solution from an aftermarket product that we could bolt on?
Thanks for any help you can give.

It's been a while, but I finally found you guys again! Good to see things are normal, here.
About 6 months after I got my 2000 XL, I lost the nice quiet interior and now hear all sorts of wind noise and associated exterior traffic noises like other vehicles road noise, radios, brakes, etc. that I didn't use to hear. Almost as bad as the 15 year old Blazer I had.
Anyway, my dealer contends that the weather stripping needs lube every 6 months. They did it for me and the only thing I got from that was greasy windows. Anyone else have this problem? Fix?

It may not be the switch. Before you run to the dealer, pull the fan speed resistor pack (it's just a few coils of varying thickness nichrome wire attached to a backer.) It's usually held on to the blower housing by 1/4 inch or 7mm hex head screws. See if it's corroded badly from moisture, which causes contact resistance where the nichrome wire is crimped to the connector. If so replace. Also could be the heater blower relay which is near the resistor pack. Not likely the switch at the dash - they're pretty durable.

I did this and it does work, as for the elec, connectors, they are just plain ring and butt Conn, you can get at any auto store.

Condition: Some customers may comment that the rear wiper jumps when the fog lamps are turned on.
Cause: Electrical feedback from the fog lamp circuit into the ground of the rear window washer pump may cause this condition.
Correction: To perform this correction, you will need to obtain the following items:
1 - A J 38125-B Terminal Repair Kit. Obtain the following parts from the kit.
2 - P/N 12077411 (Terminal) from tray #2
3 - P/N 12089496 (Ring Terminal) from tray #5
4 - A 508 mm (20 in) length of Black, 0.5 mm (20 gauge) or 0.8 mm (18 gauge) wire
Isolate the rear washer pump ground circuit by performing the following steps.
1 - Remove the left side fender to radiator tie bar diagonal brace.
2 - Remove the battery.
3 - Remove the battery tray.
4 - Remove the bolt that secures the washer bottle to the upper radiator tie bar.
5 - Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
6 - Remove the lower washer bottle mounting bolt.
7 - Locate the rear washer pump motor, mounted into the washer solvent bottle under the hood, and disconnect the wiring connector for the rear washer pump (Dark Green/White stripe and Black wires).
8 - Remove the black wire from the connector. Cut the wire and tape the end to seal out moisture intrusion. A non-sealed wire will allow moisture to wick up the strands of the wire and may corrode other components/connections.
9 - Slide one end of the new wire through the weather pack seal which was removed from the old wire.
10 - Properly attach the 12077411 terminal (crimp and solder) to one end of the new black wire.
11 - Properly attach a 12089496 ring terminal (crimp and solder) to the other end of the new black wire.
12 - Place the new terminal and wire assembly into the rear washer pump connector and properly position the weather pack seal.
13 - Reconnect the connector to the rear washer pump.
14 - Route the new black wire down to the attaching point on the frame, same location as the battery ground. Follow the battery cable routing.
15 - Remove the ground to frame attaching bolt.
16 - Clean the battery cable and G100 ring terminals of contamination.
17 - Install the new wire ring terminal between the battery ground wire (5) and the existing G100 ground wire (3). Tighten the engine wiring harness ground/negative cable bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
18 - Install the lower washer bottle retaining bolt. Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
19 - Lower the vehicle.
20 - Install the upper washer bottle retaining bolt. Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
21 - Install the battery tray. Tighten the battery tray bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
22 - Install the battery. Tighten the battery hold-down retainer bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
23 - Connect the battery cables. Tighten the battery cable bolts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).
24 - Install the left side fender to radiator tie bar diagonal brace. Tighten the front end diagonal brace bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
25 - Reset the clock.
26 - Advise the customer that all memory modules will have to be reset such as seat, radio presets, and the like. Also advise the customer that the transmission shift points may feel somewhat different. This will change over a short period of time as the transmission adapts to the customer driving habits.
