Here's what Ford has to say to the masses about towing: |
from that Ford site: "When towing a trailer, drive at approximately half the speed that you would normally be going...."
So, instead of 55 on a highway, we're supposed to go 27.5?
Riiiiiiight! |
...you can sneak in a ride any time, any where. Famous last words! Keep us posted! tidester, host |

is that more and more rec areas are banning them, or are considering it. I blame the idiots that insist on cutting 10 feet behind boats so they can get the most air off the wake. They were supposed to be banning PWCs on Lake Powell starting September 15 while an environmental impact statement is finished, but the date was extended until Nov. 6. If they do succeed in banning them there are going to be a lot of PWCs for sale around here, cheap. Anytime, anywhere? Not hardly. That's why I like the idea of a jet boat - it's a PWC disguised as a boat. -Jason |

It's interesting that Ford makes no mention of trailer brakes in any of their SUV owner's manuals, yet in their trailering guide they say ALL trailers pulled by Fords are urged* to have trailer brakes. Every Ford owner gets an owners manual, yet I bet hardly any Ford owners know that a trailering guide even exists... *= Their word. Bob |

I love PWCs but I hate 99% of the people who drive em. Most are idiots and ride them dangerously fast and dangerously close to shore/other boats. They pay total disregard for the rules of the water. In my eyes they are like those r -mike |

Straight from the 2002 Escape manual: "Trailer brakes Electric brakes and manual, automatic or surge-type trailer brakes are safe if installed properly and adjusted to the manufacturer’s specifications. The trailer brakes must meet local and Federal regulations. Do not connect a trailer’s hydraulic brake system directly to your vehicle’s brake system. Your vehicle may not have enough braking power and your chances of having a collision greatly increase. The braking system of the tow vehicle is rated for operation at the GVWR not GCWR." Not exactly the same statement that appears on their web site, but the brakes are mentioned. |
So that means that you take the GVWR and any trailer over that amount means you need brakes on it. Seems that their lawyers got pretty craft on that one. What is the curb weight of the escape? and the GVWR? If you take the GVWR subtract the curb weight + cargo + passengers + tounge weight the result will = the "unbraked trailer weight" -mike |

Trailer brakes are not mentioned in my '98 Explorer's manual, and, IIRC, they are not mentioned in the current Explorer/Expedition manuals either. I assumed that was their *trailer brake* policy, and it was applied to all their SUVs and pickups. Bob |

| personal water craft (2 of them) just fine behind my Escape. Including 4, sometimes 5 passengers, gear ontop and in the rear. The V6 is wonderful and pulls confidently.... | |
