#1180 of 11429 Noise in Headliner (revisit of Msg 946)
Jan 28, 2002 (8:39 am)
Well, I took my 2001 4Runner in and told the service department about the noise in the headliner, and now, noise in the dash (see previous messages about clicking). The service department was not about to take out the headliner. They told me that all of this rattling and clicking I was hearing was normal. (I find it very hard to believe that Toyota is producing a product that starts rattling so much after one year of driving.)
By the way, some of the clicking up front seems to be coming from the plastic wire wrap on the seatbelt sensor under the front seat. Other clicking has started only after I had spent a fair amount of time in 4x4 mode this winter while in the snow.
As for the headliner noise, I ended up pounding a few times on the headliner, just at the back of the sunroof area and this has seems to have jamb the rattling piece back into submission, and I haven't heard much noise since.
If anybody has any other suggestions/comments, please let me know...

it's a typo.
<< I think rsholland had a typo on the RX470 comment. >>
Should have been GX470.
#1182 of 11429 Another update

We just got the build matrix for February and there are 707 Runners coming to the Central Atlantic Region. These are all 2002 models and will hit the showrooms in late Feb to March. No sign of 2003s.
I have a new working theory as to why some dealers think the 2003 will be out in March. It is very possible that production of the 2002's will stop in March. This does not mean that production will begin immediately thereafter. It may be that some dealers are making assumptions based on this.
This is only a theory, because I have not heard that production will stop, but it would make sense.

Could anybody who recently bought a 4Runner share some price info? $2000 under invoice sounds really good...
#1105 of 1118 2002 or 2003 .....Do the Dealers Know Something? by austin18 Jan 26, 2002 (03:17 pm)
I went to a Toyota Dealer today..lured in by the unbelievable price for a 2002 4 Runner in a newspaper ad. Basically, they were all $2000 under invoice.

Unbelievably good. Maybe a loss leader ad, watch the back end.

Read the fine print. That figure includes the $1000 rebate and I garuntee they add freight back in and probably a processing fee. Yes, I know freight is already in the invoice, but this is a legal bump in many states. That doesn't mean it isn't a great deal, but it isn't quite what you think.

So, Cliffy, what's a "resonable" out door price for 2002 SR5 right now? a couple of hundreds over edmunds' invoice? I am always confused with the ads fee, etc. What's freight? When I am buying a 30K car, I dont think 200 matters, but I dont want to be fooled and give up too much, like, the 2nd when I meet a friend, "how much did you pay for your new truck, P?" "..." "man, I know a friend paid 1K less." "!#$!#!"

Someone claiming to have paid $1000 less. The rebate varies by region, I'm working on one for a customer today where the rebate is quoted at $1500. The low bid from the dealers is $700 over invoice, doc fee included. That's fair for his region.

Raybear is right on. $700 over the Edmunds invoice translates into about $200 to $400 over actual invoice because of the ad fees that the dealer is charged. This is a very good deal and then you can choose the rebate of $1000 or select the discounted financing.

My deal was $700 over the actual invoice, not Edmunds. But it's a 4WD in Colorado and includes the doc fee, the competition is offering doc fees in the $300 range, plus they're more expensive. Rebate there is $1500. I hope my guy decides to accept it, it's not the exact car he requested.
