Your ABS, Anti-lock braking system is NOT designed to shorten your braking distance. If anything, on a somewhat slippery roadbed, it will more likely elongate the distance it takes to stop the vehicle than not. The idea of ABS is to keep those front wheels rolling just enough to allow you to maintain directional control, actually have stearing control/response during severe or panic braking events Rather than skidding, wheels solidly LOCKED, out of control which is what might happen otherwise.
Some day soon I expect we will see Anti-lock braking systems that do not activate unless the VSC senses that the vehicle is not following the desired/correct direction.
#11388 of 11428 '08 4Runner Production delays???

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find mention of it in the lists. I've been told that Toyota had some production problems (changed plants) and no one knows when the 08's will come out, or even if they will come out. The local dealers claim no knowledge of any of this but also can't tell me when 08's are expected nor do they have any literaure on them. I'm in the process of negotiating a new lease on an '07 but just wondering if Toyota isn't offering much in the way of incentives since they don't seem to have the '08's ready.
Has anyone heard about this? Thanks.
#11389 of 11428 Michelin has released a new tire

I got an email from Michelin announcing a new tire for us 2003 and newer 4Runner owners. It's the LTX A/T2 which is more aggressive than the Cross-Terrain. Also, found out Michelin also makes the XC-LT4 in the 17" size too. Just thought you'd like to know.

I need to know the easiest way to remove a front drivers side door panel. Any Help would be appreciated. I have all screws and plastic parts removed except for the inside door latch. Im not sure how to remove without damaging parts. Its a 94 4runner with power locks and power windows. No speaker in door.
Im actually trying to find out why the window goes down but not up. Any advice on this?
Thanks for your help

Anyone have any idea on when the 4Runner will be redesigned? I currently have a leased 2004 and am deciding what to do when my lease is up this fall. I'd buy a new 08, but if it is going to be redesigned in 09 I may wait a year. Thanks!

I've heard nothing about a 4Runner replacement, so I doubt it will be replaced in 2009.

I believe 2010 will be the year for the redesign. I read several articles on it and it makes sense. It was 7 years from 96 to 2003 for a redesign so 2010 looks to be the year it gets changed. Rumor has it is that it will also take on the size of the current Sequoia, but that's only a rumor. Hope this helps. Here is a link that gives information on upcoming revisions of models for Toyota: (from autoweek)

#11394 of 11428 2000 4Runner gas problems
by dkrazydingo

First of all I have a 2000 4Runner 3.4lt engine v6.
Secondly, everytime I go to refuel, the gas pump stops pumping short of 2-3 gallons. If I wanted to maximize my fuel tank capacity (for long trips), I would have to constantly squeeze the lever on the gas pump for at least 5 minutes (very annoying). I've used different gas stations and went as far as to checking the vent system of the gas hose and still nothing.
Finally, I'm getting real poor gas mileage. I've checked spark plugs, had the oil and air filter changed and tire pressure checked. I'm currently in the process of putting fuel cleaner in the tank.
By the way, a couple of months ago, on the way back for a trip. I was driving through the desert and stopped off at a gas station to get some drinks. After a few minutes have passed by, a couple of guys walked in and said that they saw a 4Runner spill alot of fluid. I didn't think anything of it, but later on while I was driving, I noticed that I was missing about a quarter tank of gas. I thought I would mention this fact because the poor fuel issue started right after this happened.
Any ideas or suggestions as to what I can do to solve both problems?

Does anyone have them on their 4Runner. What do you think of them? How many miles? Would you get them again?

I bought a 2006 Sport Edition V8 Toyota 4Runner some months ago but never had the opportunity to test its offroad features like the Downhill and Hill Start Assist Controls. I live in Illinois which is relatively flat. Any suggestions of suitable steep hilly terrain near Illinois anyone?
