Plastic to Metal by gunga64

I just read in the other forum that they are going to change the panels to metal from plastic in 2008. How stupid is Saturn. Thats one thing that is a plus. I have never seen a Saturn with the plastic panels that looked bad. They get a good technology and then dump it to save a buck. The VUE imo was a very good looking SUV now the 2008 looks like a Hyundai. GM is going to go under for sure.

More and more it looks like I will be staying with imports. It's a shame, those plastic panels were what made Saturn standout.

Those Hyundais must look good, then!

I have a 2003 that I bought new. It just passed 38,000 miles on the odometer, and ZOUNDS! This has been one great vehicle up to this point. I am thinking I would rather have an automatic than this standard tranny model, but it runs like a top. The factory recall for the rear suspension was easy to get handled, although I never had ANY problem with the suspension on this particular Vue. I can't say I am particularly moved one way or the other about any change in the body panel materials coming up. I may eventually need an Aura...

Egads reading the past reviews on this VUE!! by gunga64

Well I can take the VUE off my list. I have never seen so many complaints before. Between engines, transmissions loose parts, loose suspensions, sensors going bad, lousey service.

You know I was about to give Saturn a shot. Even though my parents owned a Pontiac van 2 years ago that was a nightmare. I figured heck this Vue looks like it could be a good thing. But reading the forums of past history just convinced me to look elsewhere. Also I think CR has a good record on what is good and bad. I don't like the VUEs past history.

I got a leather wrapped shift knob for Christmas-anyone know how you remove the factory knob? No setscrew that I can see-and I tried unscrewing it. Anyone know?

Just contact your Saturn dealer service manager. They have always been helpful with any question I asked...

I have found that far and away more time is spent for complaints than anything else in a significant percentage of these forums. Don't let that scare you too much. I'll tell you that my Vue 2003 2WD has been excellent.

Are you looking at the dial-like knob? It brightens or dims your instrument panel.

saturn VUE V6 AWD, need input by jr1

I am considering a new saturn vue v6 awd. I like input from owners or drivers of the awd vue and how they handle in the snow and on snowy and slippery hills. I know you can stall out on these hills with traction control, etc.
Does your awd work well in snow and on slippery hills? Gas mileage suffers lots?
Will it take chains ok with clearances on the wheel openings? What snow tires if any do you use on your vue?

Also, do you think the 08 Vue would be worth waiting for in lieu of the 07? If so, what will be the big differences. Thanks

My wife drives an '04 AWD V6, and with the amount of snow we've received here in CO the past couple of months, I think I can tell you how the VUE will be.

First, she loves her car. Right size, nice ground clearance, pretty good interior space. The 3.5L V6 (sourced from Honda, by the way) has lots of get up and go.

With regards to winter driving, the VUE has been a champ. We had 3 storms in 3 weeks in late December and early January that dumped a total of almost 50" of snow on us. The VUE got through that with no problems.

We do not use snow tires or chains .. we did, however, replace the lousy OEM tires with some Coopers all seasons and the difference has been amazing.

The '08 VUE will have three different engines available .. the standard 2.4L 4-cylinder, and two V6's. One is the 3.5L OHV that you see in the Aura and Malibu, while the other is the 3.6L OHC VVC that is the upscale engine in the Aura, as well as the Cadillac CTS.

I suspect that when the '08 comes out, there will be some terrific deals to be had on the '07's.

Good luck!
