You are in the Saturn VUE
What is this discussion about?
Saturn VUE, SUV
Sep 08, 2004 (5:40 am)
We have a 2002 Vue and I have never felt like it was going to tip, even in extreme winter conditions. We had the recall work done and I am satisfied that Saturn has taken care of us. No SUV is perfect but given the fix and the stellar 5 star crash tests for the Vue, I feel very safe in my truck.
We recommend the Vue without reservation to anyone.

How long did it take? What did they do? I have not heard from my dealer yet, only the vauge letter from Saturn.

We bought a 2003 Saturn Vue less than 2 years ago. It has been nothing but trouble since we bought it. Air went out, windows quit working, etc. Little things in the beginning. Yes, Saturn fixed all those. (But a huge pain!) Now... I get to the part when the warranty runs out. We put a lot of highway miles on the vue. Husband is in sales and up and down the interstate every day. Now at less than 2 years old we have 54,000 miles. Of course there are all sorts of transmission problems with the vue. (Saturn recalled this and said they fixed ours) Engine still rattles and knocks. Take it in for the 6th time and they do something to it. About a day later big noises from the engine! Saturn says it is the Crankshaft and that it is not under warranty. (Every mechanic we've talked to says a crankshaft should not go out on a car less than 2 years old)
After talking with Corporate Saturn, the company says... sorry! Either pay up the $2,000 and we don't put your car back together. So... we pay the $2,000. We have so much negative equity in that Vue ... I'm hoping a Tree falls on it during the Hurricane and it's totaled. I just want out of it. I'm going to put a sign in the back window that says "DON'T BUY A SATURN!" I want to warn as many people as I can that this company doesn't back up its vehicles. Go to any review site and you'll see way more negative reviews than positives. I wish I had only read those before I was suckered into one. I'd love to buy American made cars... but this Saturn experience may be the last straw. My foreign cars never give me any problems.

Well, our experience hasn't been nearly as bad as yours sounds, but I unfortunately agree that I wouldn't buy a Saturn again. We have had several warranty repairs with our 2003, nothing major, but hassles none the less.
The main thing is the material and workmanship quality of the VUE. Our other vehicle is a Sienna, and that is so much nicer the two aren't even comparable in terms of quality (plus the Sienna is a couple years older than our VUE, but it still is holding up much better).
I see the VUE is now one of the worst vehicles for reliability, according to CR (rated "much worse than average" now).

I have a 04 V6 AWD. IO am a travelling sales rep that gets a new vehicle every year. I have 12000k on mine in 2 months & it has been the best SUV I have ever owned. In the past I have owned Ford explorer, mazda tribute(2), Nissan Pathfinder, Jeep cherokee(2).My vue totally beats all the above vehicles in ride, power, comfort & fuel consumption.

We have one of the first few thousand V6 Vues built and it's been a VERY good little SUV over the 2 + years we have had it. No major troubles at all. There are always a few lemons around but the Vue is generally a good SUV. I think most of the relibility issues in CR stem from the CVT, not the truck itself. I think the CVT is gone for 2005.
#3299 of 3783 Just Bought my 3rd Saturn
Sep 15, 2004 (4:45 pm)
It's been a few years. Our first Saturn was a '92 SL2. It was a wonderful car that gave us zero problems. We drove it 60K miles in 2yrs and then traded it for an SC2 Coupe. Both my wife and I liked our coupe very much, but my head brushed the ceiling and I didn't have a comfortable position for my left foot. So, we traded it for a Dodge Intrepid, which we liked a great deal. After 100K miles, we sold the Intrepid and bought a Cad Eldorado. We liked it too, but needed a 4 door so traded it for a '97 Deville. The Deville proceeded to eat us alive in repairs. After $8K in 4 years we decided to trade it. Our new Saturn is an Electric Blue Vue. It's a 4 cyl fwd stick shift with leather, sport package II, comfort package and ABS. So far,(150 miles) we like it a lot. Comfort-wise, it will never be the Deville, but then it is not a 40K vehicle. It is, however, quite comfortable. I hope we can say that, after 100K miles, we still love it. I still have another Cad. It is a very nice '90 Brougham with 5.0 cast iron motor. Power-wise, it's a sled, but it is very comfortable and aside from the air conditioning, has caused no problems.

because of the known vue transmission problems, saturn extended their warranty to 75,000 miles. however, that extension goes with the car, not the transmission. i've just put a new transmission in my 2003 vue for the 2nd time. the original transmission lasted 11 months. the 2nd transmission lasted 9 months. what happens when the next transmission only lasts that long - i'll get stuck with the bill! i'm fighting with saturn now to get the warranty to go with the transmission rather than with the car. has anyone else had this problem?

hmmm, this one is new to me. I don't recall hearing issues with the automatic transmission before. Are you talking about that, or the CVT?
What 75,000 mile warranty are you talking about? That's news to me.

regarding the automatic transmission. because they knew they were having problems and didn't want to do a recall, they extended the warranty with regard to transmissions to 75,000 miles. i don't have the letter with me but can provide detials later today if you want.
