Forester rental in Hawaii? How cool is that?
The hatch striker plate can be adjusted, so that's something the dealer could fix for you fairly easily.
Bruce: I just read a press release that said Forester sales were up 4%, and that Subaru had a record August.
But a $1200 incentive? I'd take it, no complaints here. I bet that's not accurate, though. Even the 2002s only carried a $500 incentive, and that was to clear out the left overs for the 2003's arrival.
In fact, the 1998-2001 never carried any cash incentive, which is great because that keeps resale strong.

Yeah, I just checked fitzmall.com, and they have prices right around invoice. If there were a $1200 incentive, prices would be around $1k under invoice, at most.
It could be regional, though. Or just a mistake by Edmunds. Patti - can you verify that? Or is that top secret stuff?

A Forester rental in Hawaii would be sweet indeed. Where did you rent it?
What a way to market a car -- you get to test drive it in paradise!

They had a both 2003 and 2002 Foresters to rent. I originally had a compact reserved (chevy cavalier) and they told me I could get a brand new Forester for $10 more a day, I didn't even have to think about it. The great visibility in the Forester was perfect for the Island.

There's a no-brainer if I've ever seen one.

Juice- The cash to dealer for 2003 forester shows $1200 for 2 other zip codes I put in for oklahoma and Montana, so it is not just california area. Also, 2003 outback and legacy have only a $300 cash allowance to the dealer. It does seem odd that 2002 had $500 cash and 2003 already gets $1200. Although 2002 legacy and outback both had $1200. Must be regional. If it's true that makes the Forester a solid value, I thought it already was. I'd actually prefer to see Subaru add content vs. drop pricing.

When I pull up the 2003 Forester incentives page, the first thing it lists are the special APRs and $1200 dealer cash for the 2002 Legacy (so it seems the Edmunds folks may have a programming glitch here somewhere). When I go down the page a bit farther, I see special APRs for the 2003 Forester but no cash deals.
#7872 of 18028 Rust and aluminum...

The surface layer of untreated aluminum will oxidize, but it will not "rust" in the sense that steel will rust till it crumbles (the way body panels on older model cars commonly do). The black stuff on the surface of aluminum can often be wiped off with a coarse rag, rust on steel needs to be sanded
