I purchased my first 2001 LR-D three days ago, hoping for the best. On day three, my 'service engine soon' light comes on, the engine is sounding a bit on the whine-y side (but not too bad as most V8s are loud) AND I went for my first fill up and the tank will only go 1/2 way ... then it overflows! My questions: - How seriously do we take "service engine soon' lights? I had a Ford Contour and the light NEVER went off ... just stayed on and mechanic couldn't turn it off. - Why's the engine being noisey? - Why is my gas tank only filling half way? My sympathy story: I am a poor-ol' teacher and need wise advice from LR experts! |

| Can anyone help me with the firing order for my 2003 landrover discovery. I just got new plugs and wires and some how when I changed the wires [which is a real bugger bear] I screwed up the order and only about half the cylinders fire. | |
I have a 96 discovery and am having difficulty with either the transmission or speedometer or both. I am getting little drive time, a mile or so, before she starts shaking ans shuttering and slowing. I have no speedometer at this time, at all. I have paid for a repair manual but am finding nothing regarding the speedometer, speedometer cable, etc., except for in the dashboard, alone. Any help or suggestions would be very welcome!!! I have owned lots of rovers in the past, but always in England, never in America. This is a first for me since moving here. I cannot imagine there is that much difference, but am really stumped.

I own a 2001 Discovery SE-7. I love the vehicle. But since I bought it, the transmission blew. I purchased a rebuilt transmission with a warranty from a recommended transmission specialist. The problem is the transmission blew again. Suddenly the "M" and "S" lights flashed, and the "D" in the shifting column. I drove several more miles and the transmission failed. The fluid in the transmission was full but "smoked". The specialist is trying to say that there was something else that caused the transmission to fail. I had no warning of a speed sensor gone or any overheating. Any advice other than "get rid of it". I have a loan on this vehicle and can't trade it in unless its working.

Replying to: discotrent (Aug 31, 2008 8:15 pm) Pulling left ,,, definitely something wrong. First thing to check is wheel alignment on the front wheels. I would guess they are out. Have it checked (and corrected?) and let us know. Good luck |
