Steering Shafts by jgmilberg
Oct 26, 2004 (12:33 am)
Anyone with a 1500 4WD Sierra with that famous clunk in the steering? Well if you do you can take it back to the dealer soon. They are replacing the intermediate shafts with ones from a different vendors. The new shafts are on dealer back order until around late December, early January, while they fill the factories with the new parts and get caught up with dealer demand. Best thing to do is to take it in to the dealer and they will diagnose and place the part on order for your truck, this way your part is reserved for you.

ryanbab thanks for the reply, I do not have a bug deflector. It really sounds as if someone is pushing on the roof causing it to flex and make the noise. I will double check the mouldings around the windshield just to be double sure. Any other ideas?

I agree the sheet metal on the roof is very thin. When I wash or wax the roof I feel like I am going to fall through. I have never heard the roof make noise though

GMC Radio unlock code by kiv
Oct 26, 2004 (4:01 pm)
I have a 2000 GMC 1500. Just recently, my battery ran down which cut power to my radio. Unfortunately, I can't find my un-lock code to reset the radio. Does anyone know the code the dealers puts in to unlock the radio if you forget the code?

A compression and cylinder leak-down test should be performed. This will isolate your problem area. However, since valve guide wear and punky valve guide seals have been a problem on small block Chevies for thirty years, I would bet that this is your most likely candidates for oil consumption. On very high mileage motors you'll start to see some oil rings cracked, or if not properly maintained, stuck oil rings.

Mine does the same thing. I weekly drive through one of the windiest places in the country and it isn't unusual to hear it buckle, almost always from a side wind. I don't worry about it. Strong doubts if the dealer, even if he heard it, could or would do anything about it. Sounds kind of like when you crinkle a soda can, don't it?

You are not nuts, all of these body style trucks have this problem! It is definitely the very thin roof bucking - I have verified it! Have you ever washed your truck - you can not even wipe the roof with a soft towel without buckling the roof! I am currently trying to figure out how to handle. I'm sure the dealer will say he can not fix a design problem. If we get enough people to work together we may have some hope. Everybody that has one of these trucks has the same defective design. If you have some ideas how to get GMC and/or Chevrolet's attention, please let me know!

2004 GMC or Chev 1500 hard shift, 1st to 2nd by fishersc
Dec 17, 2004 (12:31 pm)
When I am driving slow in traffic (accelrate slowly to about 15 MPH and then back off the accellerator, the trans shifts like a sledge hammer into 2nd! This has started recently and is getting worse. I hate to take it in for warranty work if I don't know what the problem is. Anybody have similar problems and know what the fix is?
