#5454 of 6484 IS MY HONDA ODYSSEY DEMON POSSESSED??
Aug 31, 2005 (6:10 pm)
My 1997 Honda Odyssey D4 light started flashing, while the speedometer went completely crazy and the odometer stopped functioning, all at the same time and after leaving home and driving a few miles! If I turn the car off and back on the problem disappears, but comes back again after driving for a few miles. If I drive a while longer, the Engine Check light comes on too. I bought this car second hand a few months ago, and have recently noticed the car gas efficiency has significantly come down (if this information helps in any way). Is there a reasonable explanation to this problem? Is this a problem that could be easily and inexpressibly solved? Do I need to exorcize the vehicle or take it to the dealer? Thanks in advance to whoever cares to respond back.

Have someone scan the car to retrieve the codes, AutoZone etc will do this for free at least once I believe. This will give you a good starting point to figure out what is going on, and it will help everyone here as well. The D4 light flashing usually indicates there is a current problem, likely logged by the Transmission Control Unit. Your problems could easily be caused by a dying VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) but getting the code is your best bet for good advice from here. Also, how many miles on the Ody?

I'd check the vehicle history and make sure nobody died in the thing. It could be the spirit of the deceased owner (probably a used car salesman) thinking he is alive and still in control of operating the vehicle. He has not yet passed over into the light.
If it was demon possessed I would think the van would be trying to drive you into a ditch or other unhealthy hazzard. Proceed with caution. If you would like the name of a good Catholic priest let me know.
#5457 of 6484 Honda Odyssey - Battery mystery
Sep 01, 2005 (7:48 am)
I'm new to this forum. I'd appreciate help from anyone out there that has experience with my problem. I have read quite a few other posts that describe a problem quite similar to mine. My wife has a 2001 Odyssey. She tried starting it and everything was completely dead, no dash lights, no nothing. She did say that she heard a clicking noise coming from under the dashboard. Probably a relay tripping. When I came home to check out the problem, the first thing I did was try to open the power door locks with the remote key. I got zero response. Seemed completely dead. I opened the door with the key. I tried to start it up. I got absolutely no response, no dash lights, nothing, no sign of life and no clicking noise. I decided to try and jump start the car. Before hooking up the cables I verified that the battery connections were good - they were. The green "eye" on the battery also indicated that the battery is probably charged. I proceeded to jump start and was immediately successful. I removed the cables and then shut off the engine. I then started the engine with no problem. Battery sounded strong as ever. Repeated starting and shutting off 5 or 6 times. Don't know what to do next. I know the problem will come back.
Any help you folks can offer is much appreciated.

Anyone know about a reliable, good and trustworthy Honda mechanic OR Honda dealer service manager to handle Odyssey repairs and maintenance in the Wash Metro area and specifically in Maryland?

Should you get another new Odyssey or maybe something else?
I can't make that call for you. If it was me, I would chalk it up to the fact that I got the lemon. Remember. If you take the new Odyssey, you will start your 3 yr warranty all over again. You will still have the lemon law on your side. If you really like the Odyssey, then maybe stay with the Odyssey. If not, the only other van I would reccomment is the Sienna.
But just make sure and stay firm. If you take the new Odyssey, make sure you get the EXACT same model, and make sure you do not put a single dime out of your pocket. And if you decide to take the money and run? Make sure you get EVERY dime you paid to purchase the van.
Keep us apprised of what happens, and good luck.

Why would he get every dime he paid to purchase the van? Honda wouldn't take off a certain amount of money for every month he drove his Ody?

Take the money and run... and go buy you a Sienna. I regretted buying my 2005 Odyssey EX-L... full of repairs and the clunking passenger noise (4 attempts to repair it and still is there) is very frustrating... NEVER AGAIN HONDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
