Herb chambers was quoting $550 over invoice, but it was tough to get a price commitment in writing.

Not likely they would for a variety of reasons - the main one being that the only monetary loss they would suffer is if they end up selling the vehicle for a lesser amount. In that event the defaulting buyer would be responsible for the difference between the (breached) contract price and the eventual selling price - likely a small amount.

Sorry for this late reply to your inquiry but have you tried "Sam Swope Honda World" in Louisville? I recently purchased an EXL RES for 500 + invoice there. Swope also sells extended warranties almost at cost. On the other hand, a sales manager at Neil Huffman offered $400 + invoice when I told him, by phone, that I had 500 + invoice in hand at Swope. But I didn't feel like driving across the river for his shoddy $100 discount (he should've been more aggressive if he wanted to intercept Swope business). Nevertheless, this story should demonstrate a willingness on the part of area dealers to deal within a few hundred dollars of invoice for EXL-RES Odysseys. Hope this helps! Good luck!

I am in the market for a 2005 Honda Odyssey EX-L and I live in the Lexington, Kentucky area. According to a dealer who responded to my e-mail inquiry, Factory Invoice Cost on it is $27,548.95 plus all applicable taxes and fees as required by law. The dealer said their last three Odysseys sold for about $28,200-$28,500. Has anyone had any recent good deals in the Kentucky area? If so, is it unreasonable to expect a purchase price of $100 to $200 over invoice cost?
Also, does anyone know if you are responsible for paying sales tax on the difference of your trade-in value? I have received conflicting answers from KY dealers on this question. Some have stated that I would be responsible for sales tax on the entire purchase price, while others stated that I would only pay tax on the difference after the value of the trade had been subtracted from the purchase price. Thank you.

Does an Odyssey bought in Oregon (or any other state) comply with California emission standards? If not, you have made a colossal mistake. Check out the California DMV web site (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/fast_facts/ffvr29.htm). The dealer I'm talking to has told me he can't trade Odysseys with out-of-state dealers because of emission standards.

I had a similar situation. Lived in Sacramento Calif. Had to get rid of my Plymouth Voyager which is still the only vehicle I have gottten rid of with less than 100,000 miles (it had 71K). Wanted to buy an Astro in Nevada or order one without CA emissions since I was leaving in two months. No WAY! Dealers said that as long as I had a Calif address, they could not sell me a non-Calif car. Wound up buying a Ca emissions Astro.
BTW - Thought Hondas met emissions for all 50.

I am the one that just bought an 05 EXL from Dick Brooks Honda at Greer, SC. Also silver pearl color. Two emails and one phone call to Dick Brooks Honda got me to the invoice price at 27,550 + 99.5 doc fee. I searched extentively back in Jan and sent out more than 50 quotes. I contacted almost all the dealerships within 200 miles of Charlotte and also several other dealers that are recommended on the forum. If you send me an email, I can send you a list of the quotes that I received. I can also give you the name of the salesperson I worked with at Dick Brooks.

Well, I'll find out for sure when I go to the DMV on Friday to register it but yes, Honda makes a single model of car that's certified for sale in all 50 states. They make all Odyssey's (and I believe every model) to meet California's emissions.
