"What did you sign? Most dealerships will give you back your deposit and let you walk away. but you're not going to make any friends at this dealership."

Got that right. I had a $500 deposit at a local dealer last fall and then negotiated an offer that saved me almost $2K from a dealer in Colorado Springs 90 minutes away. Asked the local dealer to match and then even split the difference, but no dice. Bought van in CS. I had told the local dealer they could send me my $500 deposit check, but then decided to call the bank and do a "stop check" because I suspected this might get ugly. I never heard from the local dealer again, and never saw my check again. To me, it was worth the $28 stop check fee to avoid the hassle.

Go to post 8355 in this discussion. Dick Brooks in Greer SC received good comments. Haven't heard a lot of good things about eastern NC. Toe Raleigh area is tightly held by a few owners. I.E. Leith Honda, Leith Toyota, Leith Dodge, Leith Chevrolet, Crown Honda, Crown Ford, etc, you get the idea. Maybe Davenport Rocky Mount or Vester in Wilson but have only heard a few things on each.

If you hear anything firm please post as there has been little info for this part of the country.

Stop check a good idea, but if you legally owed them the $500 they could have taken you to small claims court? But then again I doubt a dealership would do that over $500...don't know.

Herb chambers was quoting $550 over invoice, but it was tough to get a price commitment in writing.

Not likely they would for a variety of reasons - the main one being that the only monetary loss they would suffer is if they end up selling the vehicle for a lesser amount. In that event the defaulting buyer would be responsible for the difference between the (breached) contract price and the eventual selling price - likely a small amount.

Sorry for this late reply to your inquiry but have you tried "Sam Swope Honda World" in Louisville? I recently purchased an EXL RES for 500 + invoice there. Swope also sells extended warranties almost at cost. On the other hand, a sales manager at Neil Huffman offered $400 + invoice when I told him, by phone, that I had 500 + invoice in hand at Swope. But I didn't feel like driving across the river for his shoddy $100 discount (he should've been more aggressive if he wanted to intercept Swope business). Nevertheless, this story should demonstrate a willingness on the part of area dealers to deal within a few hundred dollars of invoice for EXL-RES Odysseys. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Lowest Price on EX-L in Kentucky? by hudsonvan

I am in the market for a 2005 Honda Odyssey EX-L and I live in the Lexington, Kentucky area. According to a dealer who responded to my e-mail inquiry, Factory Invoice Cost on it is $27,548.95 plus all applicable taxes and fees as required by law. The dealer said their last three Odysseys sold for about $28,200-$28,500. Has anyone had any recent good deals in the Kentucky area? If so, is it unreasonable to expect a purchase price of $100 to $200 over invoice cost?

Also, does anyone know if you are responsible for paying sales tax on the difference of your trade-in value? I have received conflicting answers from KY dealers on this question. Some have stated that I would be responsible for sales tax on the entire purchase price, while others stated that I would only pay tax on the difference after the value of the trade had been subtracted from the purchase price. Thank you.

Does an Odyssey bought in Oregon (or any other state) comply with California emission standards? If not, you have made a colossal mistake. Check out the California DMV web site (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/fast_facts/ffvr29.htm). The dealer I'm talking to has told me he can't trade Odysseys with out-of-state dealers because of emission standards.
