I want to admit that I am not a savvy negotiator. I have assumed that purchasing a touring with Nav/RES will pretty much require paying MSRP, which I understand is about 38,810. My husband and I have been looking for a Slate Green with olive interior. We have been occasionally dropping in to window shop at local dealerships, however, I am not sure we are going about it the right way. My husband got a call a couple of weeks ago that one of these dealerships will be receiving the van we want by the middle of Feb. We took a check to the salesman I assumed to "hold" the vehicle. We haven't struck a deal yet, but my husband did sign an order and the price quoted is 39,808 (this includes mudguards and I believe pin striping). This price is $1,000 over MSRP. Surely, they can't be serious about charging that much for about $100 worth of dealer product since they are making about 12% profit on these even selling at MSRP. Now, since reading these forums, I see that it is not impossible to purchase one of these for less than MSRP. For my area, what we are hearing and seeing posted for TMV is that people are paying MSRP. Is it too late to try to negotiate a better price or should I just kiss my deposit good bye and wait until I can find a better deal?

My wife and I were just out looking at vans tonight at Carmax. Our intent was just to get an idea of what was out there, and hopefully check out the 2005 T&C and maybe look at a used Odyssey or Sienna while we were there. Well, they only had a few Odyssey's on the lot, but one of them is a 2004 EX with 4,000 miles. The best guess is it was a dealership's demo car. Anyway, the price is $24,599 ($26197.88 out the door). This is actually slightly higher than what we wanted to pay, but the best we can tell, this is a very good price for this car and we are now trying to confirm if it really is a good deal. KBB has the car listed at a value of approx. $30,000. However, in Edmund's info they have it listed around $22,000. I've been looking on-line and it's just about impossible to actually find any 2004s for sale, so I don't really have much to compare it to. If anyone can offer some advice as to whether or not this price is a good deal, I'd appreciate it. Luke

| My guess is that for a $1000-$1500 more you could get an 2005 EX out the door shopping on the net. More than you wanted to pay, but a better deal in my opinion. You might even be able to find a 2005 Ex right at invoice 25,527 + TTL. The new Consumers Report tested the 2005 Ody, Sienna, Grand Caravan and some loser GM product. The Ody was rated best by just a whisker over the Sienna most likely because they didn't like the Sienna's braking distance. | |

Replying to: cccompson (Feb 04, 2005 6:22 pm) It is worth a phone call to the Internet sales mgr; feel free to use my name, although I don't suspect it will help. My understanding is that their supply of NAV models is limited, but if they have the cars available, my sense is that they will be competitive. See posts 7446 and 7441 for possible strategy. My experience was not typical since it was the last day of the year; that pressure does not exist in feb '05. With my deal, there was no negotiation--she offered invoice, and my only decision was whether to go out of state. After having another car sold out from under me the same day (see post 7398) and knowing how fast odysseys--especially NAVs--were blowing out of showrooms in the last week of the year, it wasn't a difficult decision for me to accept the offer.

Since it seems that you are a Toyota guy, I'll let you know that there is a Toyota deealership in the group. With all good wishes... |

Replying to: moondance (Feb 04, 2005 7:24 pm) I defer to the more experienced posters, but I thought that you can typically obtain a refund of such a deposit if no contract has been signed. Get in touch with cccomposon to find out where there is a dealer selling the Touring RES/NAV at invoice, which sounds like a pretty incredible deal (see post 8382). Keep us posted. |

I just picked up a new 2005 Odyssey EX today. I also purchased the all-season mats, but I was very surprised when the sales person told me they only covered the front and middle rows. The back row (3rd seat) has NO all-season mat. This seems very strange, especially for a minivan where all 3 rows are generally used. Can anybody else confirm this?

Replying to: scottyb (Feb 04, 2005 8:02 pm) My point though was that many here have extolled the virtues of this store (including myself based on other posts) yet when I approached them my reception was, to say the least, chilly. |

Replying to: moondance (Feb 04, 2005 7:24 pm) If a refund is refused (and depending on the amount) it might even be worthwhile to just abandon the transaction altogether. Forget about MSRP and come on up to Ohio - there are two stores here offering to sell me a Touring R&N at invoice (a good $5000 less than your number) right now. While I don't feel free to identify them until I conclude matters, College Hills Honda in Wooster (near Akron in NE Ohio) is offering all in-stock Odysseys at 1 cent over invoice for the rest of this month. See the home page of their website for their Odyssey inventory. They told me just yesterday they will pre-sell any coming in at $500 over invoice. While they do not have any R&Ns in stock, a couple (a silver EX-L and a white Touring) are scheduled to be built this coming week and some others are on tap for March. The Tennessee market must be rough for consumers now. A Memphis dealer offered a black/black Touring R&N on ebay last week for a "buy now" price that was $2000 over MSRP. I looked for the ad again last night and it was gone so perhaps they got that price - yikes! |
