Sylvia, I just went over the Odyssey section of Smart Shopper and ALL of the discussions there are "read only." The last post in the thread about extended warranties was in September 2003. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place but I guess I'm not sure where we are supposed to go given this state of affairs.

Maybe some of those threads can be unlocked so that we have a place to take any "off topic" discussions.

Odyssey pices in San Jose Bay Area by origami

Hi:

I'd greatly appreciate some info about Ody prices in and around San Jose, CA. I'm looking for an EX-L with RES (no Nav).

The best price I got from an internet manager was $30,750 from Vista Honda (Southern Cal). That's $1750 over the invoice. I'd rather buy locally, however.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Thanks, cccompson. At least someone understands. I was not inferring that no one listens to the Hosts here. But rather, because the Smart Shopper board is such a melting pot of topics that are either closed or contain too many makes/models to zero in on exactly what you want to talk about-- being sent there is the de facto end of a discussion.

Searching for a good deal in Dallas by ewy123

I am wondering if anybody has gotten any good deals from Honda dealers around Dallas area?
The quotes I've getting were about $1500 over invoice for an EX-L Odyssey and they are not willing to go down much further.

Is it real that some people actually paying only the invoice or less than $300 over (~$27,500)? Any new tricks?

Thanks, this forum is really great, helped a lot of people!

This Forum is just fantastic. Many thanks to the people here and the HOST.

Any other Northern California 05 Ody buyer share the prices/quotes? Althought the market here is outrageous, relatively good deals are still something we can findout.

EX-L RES/NAV-Classic Honda by scottyb

As did others on this board, I had an excellent experience with the Internet sales mgr. at Classic Honda in Streetsboro, OH.

EX-L RES/NAV - $30,963.76 (invoice)
document fee $100.00
Ohio title/temp. tags - $25.50
total $31,089.76.

I subsequently added fog lights ($392.94) and day/night mirror ($288.72) using Classic's service dep't (prices were after 10% AAA discount was applied). Was going to add subwoofer ($360.90), but it didn't arrive in time.

I made the deal on Mon., 1/3/05, having decided on trim line the previous Friday and aware that Honda was closing its ’04 year on that day and that dealers had certain sales figures they needed to meet. (see post 7858). After learning that my options within a 2-hour drive were a) $500 over invoice but no delivery for many weeks (and thus no 2.9% financing, which expired 1/5) or b) buying an in-stock for $3,100+ more, I received a call from the Internet sales mgr at Classic, advising that they needed to book sales that day to reach a Honda dealer incentive level and that she would sell at invoice an Ocean Mist EX-L R/N that was due to arrive in a day or 2. (It actually arrived the next day w/5 mi. on odometer, built 12/23.) After considering the fact that I would have to take the train there (around $135 for the family, but a 10-hr. train) and drive the van home 6+ hrs., or have it shipped, I took the deal. (We had just turned in my wife's company car, so we needed a car ASAP.)

The dealership wanted me to fly in so they could record the sale that day, but that was impossible. To enable the dealership to book the sale that day, I offered to wire them the purchase price and they agreed to return it when the financing was in place (we intended to obtain the Honda 2.9%).

Although Honda first offered 3.9%, I had the Internet service manager go back and get 2.9%, which she did.

In addition to the unusual nature of the price at that time (invoice on the last day of the year on a trim line that was in great demand), the delivery of the vehicle turned out to be unusual. My wife and I decided that it wasn't a good time for us to take a weekend trip to pick up the van and decided to have it shipped for $275. The scheduled shipment--arranged with an outside shipper--fell through about the same time as the Internet sales mgr called to advise that she had just learned that the contract between Honda Finance and the dealership requires that all financing papers be signed in person before a representative of the dealership. (Apparently the Patriot Act requires that banks and other financial institutions take steps to verify the identity of anyone opening a new account.) At that point, all of the papers had been fully signed by all parties (we had signed before a notary public), and we were not in a position to come to pick up the car.

So, in order to fulfill Honda Financial's requirement and preserve our 2.9% deal (Honda Financial's quotes must be consummated within 10 days), on 1/13 the Internet sales mgr, an irrepressible grandmother, singlehandedly drove the van over 6 hours--partially through rain--to our house, and then rented a car and drove back--through rain and punishing snow--the same day, arriving shortly before 2 am. Only days earlier, she had delivered a van 2 hours away after it arrived at the dealership later than expected.

The Internet sales mgr never tried to sell me any extras, and, without discussion, put "N/A" next to the lines for gap insurance and simoniz on the contract.

She was very patient, answered a multitude of questions, and worked very hard to ensure a smooth transaction, even though there was little if any profit in it for her. Her efforts to deliver the vehicle were extraordinary.

I hope to buy from her again (I'm looking for a used BMW convertible, and the Classic group sells many brands) and would recommend her without reservation.

Many thanks to those who recommended Classic and those who posted prices on the board for your invaluable assistance.

Thanks Secondrow:

I've been monitoring Dealers around the Bay Area ever since the new Odyssey was available last Sept.

I don't know why, but dealers in and around San Jose, CA want close to MSRP prices for the Ody! Way over what I read from other parts of the country in this forum.

Recently I've sent emails to the dealers around the Bay Area and here are some of the Quotes I've been getting:

Vacaville Honda:
2005 Honda Odyssey EX $26,988
2005 Honda Odyssey EXL $29,499
2005 Honda Odyssey EXL-RES $31,399
2005 Honda Odyssey Touring $32,999

Hayward Honda:
2005 Honda Odyssey EX-L RES $31,410.00

Tracy Honda:
MSRP

Anderson Honda, Palo Alto:
$500 under MSRP

South Bay Honda, Los Gatos:
$1300 under MSRP for an EX or Touring(no RES/Nav)

Stevens Creek, San Jose:
$MSRP and very firm about it. I wouldn't recommend these guys.

Capitol Honda:
This was a while ago and as I remember it was $400 off MSRP.

Gavilan Honda, Gilroy:
$500 under MSRP

Hopkins Honda, Sunnyvale;
$500 under MSRP

I don't see many new Odysseys on the road around here in the Bay Area compared to the new Sienna and the old Ody. I don't know why the dealers are still selling them around MSRP.

Please let me know if anybody sees a better deal. I'm looking for $1000 over invoice, which I think should be a good profit for the dealer counting the 3% kick-back. That's almost $2000 in their pocket.

Thanks to everybody again.

"Got worked over on the extended warranty though. Finance guy told us once we leave the showroom we can no longer get new car rate. He said used car rate was 200-400 more expensive. So took the 7yr/100k and paid 1450."

If you care, according to other posts on this and other boards, you apparently can cancel the warranty within 60 days for a full refund. I would imagine you would then be free to purchase the same warranty for $1,069 at another dealer (see other posts). (Even if Honda Care imposes some sort of restriction on repurchasing the warranty, the fact that there was a misrepresentation by the finance person should permit you to rescind the first deal--the misrepresentation being that you had to buy it then. My understanding is that the price remains the same until 1 year/12k mi, then goes up very slightly until 2 yr/24k mi, when it rises more substantially.)

But do you happen to have the answers to the questions in posts 8274 and 8327 (i.e. do you remember what you paid for your warranty and which warrnaty you have)?

Thanks.
