Extended Warrany Qs by dsmith1381

Am I correct to assume that I could tell a Honda salesperson that I will pay only pay 1,075 to 1,090 for a 7/100/0 '05 EX-L + Nav + RES Honda extended warranty because I can contact (many?) other Honda dealers willing to sell it to me for that? I can consider it a separate transaction?

If I drive it off the lot of dealer A, can I contact dealer B the next day and still be eligible for the warranty? Is there a time limit?

Is there value in getting the Honda Warranty vs. a third-party Extended Warranty?

Many thanks to the forum members for the great info.

Yes, you can get it at any dealer. It will be a seperate transaction in that the finance guy will offer it to you when you are doing the paperwork, but you could certainly make it part of your offer for the van.

I personally wouldn't get an aftermarket warranty. Too many horror stories of getting claims denied, not getting approval, or flat out going out of business.

But, the Hondacare requires you (I think) to use a dealer, but I would want to anyway if I wasn't paying for it!

Yep. I bought our HondaCare warranty almost two months after buying our 2005 Ody, and I bought the Ody in Colo. and the warranty in Md. Paid $795 for 7 years/75K miles, 0 deductible.

I agree with Isell. But I also agree with Heywood. I don't like raining on the parade, the deal is done, don't prompt buyer's remorse, etc., etc. but then again, the forum is, as it should be, prophylactic: it helps to stem buyer's remorse; it puts a thumb on the scale of bargaining power in favor of the long-beleaguered and bewildered car buyer.

So to the buyer who could have paid less but is now enjoying the perfect ODY, ENJOY! Meanwhile, to those who haven't purchased, the bargains are out there! Information is key! (PLEASE don't, under any circumstances, purchase an extended 7/100k/0 down warranty for more than $1069.00...Sam Swope Honda World of Louisville, KY and Pohanka Honda of MD [to name just two] are selling these warranties at $1069.00!!!)

And to those driving 2+ hours for the "perfect" deal, NO THANKS. I'll take my 500+ invoice deal fifteen minutes from my house and keep the local economy going. Good luck to all!

We should have information about prices. Do not make a cover up. by camerauser

isellhondas says,"If the buyer is happy, that's what matters. What one person considers to be "too much" evil profit may, ... "

and "someone will come along and rain on their parade by telling them how they paid too much or how another person paid less. " He wants to restrict information about price.

I disagree. This forum should encourage information including price information. Why hide price? Price is one very important factor in determining value. A salesman wants to suppress information. We expect that. We expect a salesman to make excuses that support whatever is in his best interest. Buyers and owners interests are better served with more price information.

Thanks Odysseus for your help in finding Sam Swope. I will be putting down my deposit tomorrow on my EXL RES/NAV here in MA, and the lovely lady at Sam's in KY will take my application for Hondacare over the phone. Without this valuable information, I would have paid at least $1250 for this package. Incidently, I am so grateful for all those who have submitted their prices so that I could negotiate my deal: $31,400 for EXL RES/NAV, $99 doc.

I don't want to "restrict" anything. I really don't care. That wasn't my point at all.

Nobody's hiding any prices camerauser. minivanmama stated she paid MSRP in a area where dealers were asking for $3,000 over. She got $1,000 of dealer add ons thrown in for free with a no hassle experience. Is she suppose to tell you she could have paid $3,000 less if she had flown to the other side of the country? Maybe, in her area that was a good deal.Nobody is saying don't reveal information.People who read more than just that one post will know what other Odys are going for.
dulnev,I wouldn't tell someone "great deal" on Edmunds unless they were close to it. The point being I would try to say whatever positives were applicable. The idea that 1,000 people would pay $3,000 more than they had to by simply reading my"great deal" post is ridiculous.

That's a pretty good price on an R&N, berkmom. I think it is good evidence of just how fast and far prices have fallen.

Tonight I had a store offer to sell a Touring R&N for invoice ($34,558). Unfortunately, the dealer is out of town and the color, while acceptable, is not my first choice. Using that figure for leverage, I went to my local store and will hear tomorrow whether they are interested in my business.
