Why do you guys do this?? by isellhondas

Someone comes here to share what they paid for their new car. They are happy with the deal they received.

ALWAYS, without fail, someone will come along and rain on their parade by telling them how they paid too much or how another person paid less.

I just don't understand...

If they're truly happy with their deal, then someone else's opinion shouldn't change that. There are some consumers who shop based on more factors than the rock-bottom price, including service experience and a positive transaction with the sales & F&I staff.

I'm not sure why other members want to rain on a happy shopper's parade, but hopefully the happy shopper is still happy!

I'm not raining on anyone's parade. If I were lurking on this board as a potential buyer, I would want to know how much is too much. I thought the purpose of this forum is to educate and inform buyers on the best prices around, and where to find them. (Obviously, not in California).

A $4,000+ profit on this van is too much, no matter how much some salespeople want readers here to believe it's the norm.

And there IS a happy medium between squeezing every dollar out of a deal and leaving $4K on the table.

Just because a buyer is uninformed, doesn't mean he isn't happy.....

For once I'm going to agree with Isell.Someone elses opinion shouldn't matter..but the vast majority of times it does.Doesn't do anybody any good to tell someone they spent X amount of dollars to much on a new vehicle purchase.
Once the deal is done...I always say,"congratulations, fantastic, great deal,oh...thats a great vehicle...super color"
Because that's what I like to hear.

As I explained, I wasn't really telling the buyer, I was trying to telling everyone ELSE.

If I were a potential buyer, I would want to know. I thought the purpose of this forum was to educate buyers and compare prices paid. And comparatively, the price paid was high. Hopefully, I saved someone else out there a few (thousand) bucks.

Yes, do that IN A PRIVATE MESSAGE, but it doesn't help anyone in the Prices Paid public forum. In fact, if someone pays $3,000 more than they should and you post a message saying "great deal", you just screwed a 1,000 people who see your message and think that THEY should pay that much too.

See the difference between raising someone's self-esteem and improving ability of other buyers to get a great deal?

If the buyer is happy, that's what matters. What one person considers to be "too much" evil profit may, in fact, represent a good value according to the vehicle and current market conditions.

If I were to sell my house today, I would probably net about 400,000 in profit. Sorry, but that's the current market.

OK guys - we are off-topic. There are better places to discuss this, such as in the Smart Shopper board.

Let's keep this Prices Paid & Buying Experiences and not "did the dealer make too much" or "should people really be happy unless they bought under cost".

Thanks!
