I think Route 22 Honda and Hudson Honda would have gone to invoice based on my conversations with them but I never got it in writing (via e-mail) from them.

Tell them the model you are looking for and specify NO DEALER ADD-ONS (i.e. unless you really want $500 pinstripes that are $30 stickers...). This also includes no accessory add-ons by the dealer such as roof rack (check out the H&A banner near the top of the page and price out the accessories so you know the price of each and compare it to what the dealer may want to charge you...in many cases you are better off buying from H&A and putting in/on the accessory yourself). -Know the numbers from the dealership before you go in for a test drive. Print out any communication and take it with you. -Extended warranty - this price is negotiable! Read back in this discussion and you can see what others have paid. Also - you don't have to buy this when you buy the van. You can purchase from any dealership within a certain time/mileage on the vehicle (help me out here folks...) All in all - read the articles on the site about 10 Steps in Buying New Car. They go over the various fees to watch out for, etc. Good luck! And save yourself the $300-$500, get a deal where YOU KNOW all the numbers. That $300-$500 can come in handy during the rainy season in the Bay Area (i.e. sandbags) |

| Just a follow-up. Picked the Van up earlier this week all paperwork in order no surprises. I am pricing the extended warranty elsewhere. Paid $613 above invoice for the van. Based on some posts here looks like invoice is becoming the norm. I struck the deal with Middletown Honda in NY. | |

In addition, I will send a letter to him directly with a "cc" copy to Honda and the general manager, demanding a copy of any tape recording made of your conversation, the dealership's policy regarding recording and treating business calls with customers and the specific authority for allowing him to make a tape recording (presumably without your approval and without telling you that he was doing it). It depends on the law of your state. But, unauthorized recording can (but may not always) be a violation of some statutes. If you are really aggrieved and don't get proper apologies or action, perhaps you can also contact your state's Attorney General's consumer fraud division (it may be called something different in your state) at least to start an investigation. I am all for these guys make as much money as possible. After all, it is business. But, some go too far, beyond what is ethical and, sometimes, legal. Go get him so that he will not do that to another (and perhaps weaker) consumer again.

Replying to: bucktown (Jan 03, 2005 11:01 pm) I have gotten four written offers (all located within 20 miles of my house) within a week for a Touring with NAV/RES and cross bars, cargo tray & net and 3rd row sunshade in the range of $36,750 to $37,575 (including destination charges) with varying availability in color and delivery (in stock to 6-12 weeks after ordering). The MSRP (with destination charges, but before any options) is $38,810. So, the prices are coming down -- slowly but surely. In October and November, at least in Chicago, dealers were getting MSRP on Touring and would not budge a bit. If you are willing to wait for the car and simply order it now(something you may have to do if you have a strong color preference), you will do okay. |
