How was the vehicle "delivered" to your residence? did somebody from the dealership drive it to you or on a truck? Where was the paperwork...signing, giving payment, etc done?

If you're in the NW, know EXACTLY what you want and are truly ready to buy, try contacting Kendall Honda in Eugene, Oregon via their WEBSITE (attn: Internet Sales Manager). I have loosely followed the Motley Fool (www.fool.com) car buying steps & have been an avid reader of this forum - BOTH of which helped tremendously in getting a deal we are very happy with. I will post the breakdown once we take delivery - way below msrp and not too far above invoice - good deal for us, fair profit for them. I was most impressed by their professionalism compared to others we talked to - (no games, tricks, crafty language, or guilt trips), they were prompt w/e-mails and calls, and of course the price we settled on was almost exactly what we wanted to pay from the onset w/VERY little back and forth. We treated them with respect and were open and honest with them, and they were also in return - so far it's been a very pleasant experience.

I also found this dealership to be pretty poor, at best. We live pretty close, so we didn't suffer the terrible inconvenience that you experienced. I wouldn't go near Honda World no matter what deal they offered over the phone.

We bought our EX-L R&N from Norm Reeves in Cerritos and were treated very well. One other poster here was not so fortunate with this dealership, but we went through their fleet / internet group and did much better. My wife was very specific about what she wanted in the trim level including interior and exterior colors. The fleet manager found one on the future inventory list that was an exact match, and we were willing to wait the 8 weeks for it to come in. He actually sat with me in his office and showed me the list to let me pick the one we wanted. Several times during the 8 week wait, the fleet manager called me with updates and a few days before the due date collected all the vital details to make the pickup go smoothly. The day the van arrived, I got a call at 8am and walked in that afternoon to find it all ready and papers waiting for my signature. We paid cash and sold our old car privately, so the time at the dealership was pretty minimal.

Getting a great deal wasn't going to happen, but I was far more interested in getting exactly what my wife wanted. The fleet staff was honest about the deal and got me exactly what they promised and when they promised it.

Observing the regular salesmen at this dealership, I was less than impressed. Sitting in the corner office with fleet staff, you can catch quite a bit of what's going on. It was pretty ugly. I would only use fleet at this dealer, but that being said, I strongly recommend them.

I think it's obvious that obrien040362 meant 'sticker' or 'MSRP.' I've noticed several posts where the word 'invoice' was misused.

We all know that the EX-L's are in the highest demand, as the Touring is a comparatively poor value.

The similar laugh-in-your-face, we-sell-all-we-can-get attitude of several Honda salespeople is what ultimately lead me to purchase my first Sienna.

Well, I've never laughed in anyone's face, but in the case of EXL Odysseys, we can, indeed, sell all we can get and I wish we could get a whole lot more. It's frustrating.

And, this REALLY frustrates the "invoice buyers" who are not empowered in the case of Odysseys.

I don't know that it was "obvious" that obrien meant MSRP. If so, his/her post would have made more sense. Some people do tend to confuse invoice and MSRPS.

And, not everyone "knows" that the EXL's are in the highest demand. This may vary by area. I think the NAVI's have about the same demand and this caught Honda off guard. I'm surprised as well.

No, I am quite sure that obrien040362 was asking about getting an Odyssey below invoice.

As I already posted, College Hills Honda in Wooster, OH (near Akron) had a one day sale yesterday at 1 cent over invoice on Odysseys. EX-Ls were included.

Accordingly, I don't believe his question was off the wall at all.

Very possibly. Certainly, discounts are already available on most models in most markets--and within four months of introduction in its very first model year! It does seem that EX-L's and any model with NAV--especially in certain pockets of the country--have strong demand. But the discounting in-general this early speaks to the super-competitive nature of this market segment, and the fact that the '05 Ody has fallen a bit short of (impossibly high) expectations. Although it's more refined than the '04--and a nice vehicle, for sure--the '05 has broken no new ground (except, of course, for PAX).

I paid $800 under MSRP for EXL DVD/NAV yesterday, and I'm delighted. Why? This is in California, and there are almost no NAV units to be found. Most dealers want MSRP or $1500 over MSRP, and they didn't even have the vehicle on the lot. Those who do are getting it from walk-up buyers. I found one dealer who would go $1000 under on a preorder "if he could get the vehicle sometime in the next few months" -- I'm not holding my breath.

Our vehicle is a Silver Pearl/Gray Leather EXL DVD/NAV. Yesterday morning, there were 3 of these available in the state of California (in this color). Yesterday evening, there were 0 available. One of them was sold out from under us, the other was too far away, and the last one I signed for around 7pm.

Got HondaCare 7/100/0 for $1195 (cost is $1050, another dealer quoted $1150.. initial quote was $1695).

Got 2.9% for 60 months, 0 down.. it's like free money. I think this offer is for all 2005 models, and expires very soon, maybe today. Paying cash is quicker, but throw it in a fund instead and in 5 years you'll be way ahead.

Got free delivery this morning (80 miles one way!), so my pregnant wife & toddler didn't have to drive 2 hours each way in the rain.

Props to Lodi Honda for a great experience all around. Unlike another poster who was lied to on the phone and drove 2 hours to find no car and no sympathy, I had numerous emails and calls with my sales rep and they were totally up front and confirmed everything in writing (email) before I left my house. There were absolutely no surprises when I arrived 2 hours later -- just paperwork.

More thoughts for those in the market for an Odyssey:

* Touring is nice, but the price didn't justify the minor differences for us. Also, there are no Tourings available with NAV either (we wanted NAV).

* Touring's PAX seemed like a gamble to us, especially for road trips. I'd rather have the on-board spare and the ability for any mechanic to fix it without special equipment. AAA will tow 100 miles, so run-flat for 120 or whatever is cool but not compelling.

* Others have mentioned buying a base EXL or Touring and adding a Magellan and a DVD system. I would seriously consider this if the car we wanted wasn't available right now. I think the integration of the OEM NAV will be hard to approximate though (no wires hanging around, voice commands, etc.)

* I'm setting low personal expectations for fuel economy: 17MPG. Although the big bold numbers say 20/28, the fine print says something like "a range from 17-22". I expect 17 unless cruising at freeway speed. Fortunately I probably won't even know what MPG we're getting because only the Touring has the MID that estimates it for you!

* I've used XM, and it's cool. Not sure if we need it between iPod/CD/DVD, but we'll see..

* Speaking of iPod.. I need to find a way to integrate theiPod (not via cassette deck or FM); that'll be an upcoming project.

Overall, I'm very happy. This replaces a VW Golf, so it's a huge step up in terms of usable space and kid-and-parent-friendly convenience. I think we're going to like it a lot. I love the NAV.

Happy holidays,
