Amazing deals...few seen in Pacific NW by portland1

Some of you are doing quite well in negotiating deals. I purchased a EXL-RES for $31,800 inclusive of all car fees, still had to pay the registration fees to the state. No sales tax in Oregon. The deal happened Dec 21st. I felt some pressure to do a deal since my other car fell apart and I was borrowing a friend's car for a while.
I could not find anyone who'd give me anything much than $500 off MSRP. I phoned most everyone in Portland, down to Yreka, up to Olympia, over to Coos Bay and Bend. Gresham Honda had a few in stock, did the best I could, I am envious of some of the deals back East.
My deal came with VTR (vehicle theft registration), basically a dealer inspired extra insurance policy if the car is stolen...I felt a bit robbed myself. Also came with mug guards and a trunk liner.
A few notes on the car, great pick up, have not noticed wind noise (perhaps because I drove a convertible for 13 years), no back problems at all as other people have rumored.

I wish you all well, it's a great vehicle, my first mini van.

Honda World - dishonest sales team by celesraj

We were contacted by a sales person from Honda World (Orange county near LA) confirming that he would provide us with the requested Odyssey EX L w/ R&N. Since we were living in San Diego, we were hesitant to travel for 2 hours one way with my pregnant wife to claim this. He however called us by himself and asserted the availability of the specified vehicle and that he will provide at a price lower than local dealers (MSRP). After confirming with him two more times and informing him of our arrival time we left for Honda World. We arrived there well within our mentioned time. To our dismay he did not have our vehicle. When I insisted that I am not leaving without it, he quoted $39610 (5K more than MSRP) with the justification that it was the current market price. Even after I mentioned that I was willing to negotiate, the dealer or the sales manager could not get me a vehicle at all. We waited for 2 hours until we received a firm NO and that they were not able to find the vehicle from any of their sources. I feel very disappointed and harrassed. Is there any thing I can do about this situation? I appreciate any advice. Thanks!!!

"$29849-$28987=$862 (over invoice) however...
adding the above options of >$1000 makes the deal $169 below invoice."

The accessory prices you provided are list prices that include over a 100% dealer markup! You're still above invoice albeit by a small margin. Great deal!

Really, most people are not aware that dealers make 100%-200% profit on parts and accessories. That and service is what makes them profitable, not selling cars at measly 2-5% over invoice.

Posting here about your lousy experience IS one of the best things you can do to let others know of your treatment at this dealership. Other than that - complaining to Honda to their web site is the only other option.

Please beware of them. They will offer lots of promises and will lure you to buy from them. After you buy they dont care about you. The sales people are not very knowledgeble and does not know what is going on in the dealership. I had to call them and let them know about the HFS APR, coupons on their web site etc. The standard answer that you hear from them is we will get back to you in a short while and you will never hear from them

The Finance manager is very rude, they will not accept any financing and will force you to use their financing eventhough you have a better deal. These people are very rude. The salesperson made me drive 70 miles just to find out the trade-in value of a car I had, eventhough, i did not trade in the car. The car was not delivered on the same day, as they were not ready. I had to come the next day to pick up the car.

They will be nice to you before you buy, and very unprofessional after you buy. DO NOT GO TO THEM. They are very bad. I never had this bad experience before in my car purchase.

If you find any of these, please let me know so our store can buy a boatload!

An EXL below invoice???

Right now, we have ZERO and all incoming ones have been pre-sold. The other stores in our area are in the same position!

How was the vehicle "delivered" to your residence? did somebody from the dealership drive it to you or on a truck? Where was the paperwork...signing, giving payment, etc done?

If you're in the NW, know EXACTLY what you want and are truly ready to buy, try contacting Kendall Honda in Eugene, Oregon via their WEBSITE (attn: Internet Sales Manager). I have loosely followed the Motley Fool (www.fool.com) car buying steps & have been an avid reader of this forum - BOTH of which helped tremendously in getting a deal we are very happy with. I will post the breakdown once we take delivery - way below msrp and not too far above invoice - good deal for us, fair profit for them. I was most impressed by their professionalism compared to others we talked to - (no games, tricks, crafty language, or guilt trips), they were prompt w/e-mails and calls, and of course the price we settled on was almost exactly what we wanted to pay from the onset w/VERY little back and forth. We treated them with respect and were open and honest with them, and they were also in return - so far it's been a very pleasant experience.

I also found this dealership to be pretty poor, at best. We live pretty close, so we didn't suffer the terrible inconvenience that you experienced. I wouldn't go near Honda World no matter what deal they offered over the phone.

We bought our EX-L R&N from Norm Reeves in Cerritos and were treated very well. One other poster here was not so fortunate with this dealership, but we went through their fleet / internet group and did much better. My wife was very specific about what she wanted in the trim level including interior and exterior colors. The fleet manager found one on the future inventory list that was an exact match, and we were willing to wait the 8 weeks for it to come in. He actually sat with me in his office and showed me the list to let me pick the one we wanted. Several times during the 8 week wait, the fleet manager called me with updates and a few days before the due date collected all the vital details to make the pickup go smoothly. The day the van arrived, I got a call at 8am and walked in that afternoon to find it all ready and papers waiting for my signature. We paid cash and sold our old car privately, so the time at the dealership was pretty minimal.

Getting a great deal wasn't going to happen, but I was far more interested in getting exactly what my wife wanted. The fleet staff was honest about the deal and got me exactly what they promised and when they promised it.

Observing the regular salesmen at this dealership, I was less than impressed. Sitting in the corner office with fleet staff, you can catch quite a bit of what's going on. It was pretty ugly. I would only use fleet at this dealer, but that being said, I strongly recommend them.

I think it's obvious that obrien040362 meant 'sticker' or 'MSRP.' I've noticed several posts where the word 'invoice' was misused.

We all know that the EX-L's are in the highest demand, as the Touring is a comparatively poor value.

The similar laugh-in-your-face, we-sell-all-we-can-get attitude of several Honda salespeople is what ultimately lead me to purchase my first Sienna.
