I have bought my EXL at Mckenny Honda at $29500. The dealer is very nice. I just showed them all information I got from this forum. At first they are stick on -500 from MSRP. I told them my bottom line is $29500. Finally they agreed. And all options on the van which include Sealant, Cross Bars, Wheel Locks, Splash Guards, Cargo Tray, and Stripes are free. They have 3.99% for finance.

Thanks for the reply. But don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I just want to make sure I don't pay the 5% to Mass and then have to pay 6% to NJ. I sounds as though I wont. I will end up saving $3200 assuming dealers in NJ wont budge from MSRP, the 4 hour ride will be well worth it.

That is how the cookie crumbles. We are doing the extra 1% in PA taxes after we get our van to PA and go to the DMV office. Also, our insurance company has told us to take the plates off our old van, which we are NOT driving to MA and put it on the new Honda van and bring it back to PA and then go into the DMV office and do all the paperwork. This seems to be the way to go.

I ordered my Silver Touring with NAv through Bedard Brothers around the 20 of October. The VIN# should be here anytime soon. I will write about the entire process as soon as I get my van. Good luck.

Nothing lost in talking to people. The edmunds site has been invaluable in helping me with the best price and where to go. The least I can do is to return the favor to future readers of edmunds.

I spoke with them also, and went to the DMV. Basically, you will only pay the 1% difference to NJ, since you will have a sales contract that clearly shows the 5% being paid to Mass. So, you should not have to pay twice.

The hard part about buying in Mss (at least from this dealer) is that they do not have temp/transport tags (like you would get in NY or PA). You have to pay in advance (in full), and they will overnight the paper work to you. You then have to go into the DMV and register it (and pay the 1% difference in tax). Once you have the registration and plates in hand, you can go get your new van.

This deal only makes sense if you either live close enough to make multiple trips there, or don't need them to finance or take a trade in. Almost works more like Ebay.

This is why even my insurance agent suggested that I take the plates from my present van which I am not trading in and come back from MA and take the new vehicle to the PA DMV office and get the new plates. I am not paying them in full before I see the van ,also I have said that I do not want my van being test driven by anybody. I wrote that clause into the purchase order. Icecream bought his van from them and he was also very happy with the entire process. He is from Ohio. Lets see how things work out.

Try the internet department of "Ken Garff Honda Ogden". They were offering $1800 below MSRP. Initially, they might come back to you and say that they can offer $1500 below MSRP but if you persist they will offer it to you for $1800 below MSRP. However, I think they do have a $299 documentation fee.

Excuse the question, but is this legal - driving one car with plates / registration from another??
