Re: Holdback by hondadealer

Not true.
Hold back has been there all along.
Availability is up slightly, demand is down slightly.
What determines the selling price is not what it costs the dealer but what others will pay for the same item.

If you go to post 89 in the Honda Odyssey XXX forum, you will see the Honda TB bulletin posted by Trevor at honda-accessories.com.

The site is http://www.honda-accessories.com/odyssey/drift.pdf.

At first I thought I had the problem. But the crowning of the road makes a huge difference. If I get in the high speed lane on the highway, it seems to be pulling left, middle lane stays about the same and right lane really seems to pull to the right.

Hope this helps.

SoCal dealer Penske disappoints by tedm5

I asked for price quote from Penske for a DX with no options and was told they do not charge over MSRP. I put down a deposit and was soon given a build date. I also received a couple of calls offering me the color I wanted but with options I didn't want on vans where the deal fell through. On the 2nd call after I turned down the van, they asked me what options I wanted. I told them none and they said they required around $1500 in options (both vans they offered me had that much in options). They just strung me along until it was close to when I would get the van. They probably did that to the 2 people that turned down their allowed van. So, I am still on 2 other dealer waiting lists where they have assured me that no options are required and that they will sell the van for MSRP.

LX at $500 under MSRP by leon33

Long story - last July I sold my previous car and started looking for an Odyessy. I'm in Northern California; local dealers all wanted $2000 - $3500 above MSRP. I contacted several of the buying services - no help, they only referred to same dealers or could not promise a delivery date. I discovered this message board and read everything back to #1 which led me to Brandon Kimmel at Lancaster Pioneer Honda, (661) 945-3521, one of the few dealers in all of California selling at MSRP. Phoned Brandon and placed order for LX, sent (refundable) deposit Aug. 1st, very easy to deal with Brandon, warned it would be several weeks. Come mid September, Brandon called to say he had an LX, color CSS, but by this time I had decided I didn't like CSS color (funny prune tint in some light) and wanted to wait for a 2001 in Starlight Silver with the adjustable height/angle seat. So I asked Brandon to put me down for the first SS 2001 LX. Unfortunately, there was one order before mine and it would be a while longer before the 2001s came in. No problem, until mid November, the rainy season fast approaching, and still no production date. On to plan B. I had noted from posts on this board that Odyessys are more readily available and even going under MSRP in the midwest, Ohio and Indiana. I have relatives in Indiana that I would love an excuse to visit. So I emailed inquiries for an SS color LX to about 10 dealers in Indianapolis and around Indiana. Immediate success! One dealer had a DEP LX in stock at MSRP, several others others offered vans at MSRP with delivery in a few weeks up to two months, and best of all, one had a van in my color choice scheduled and not spoken for. The dealer was DPatrick in Evansville, Scott Maddox, Honda Sales Manager. I called Scott and without any attempt on my part to bargain he offered a $500 discount off MSRP! To make the long story a little shorter, I flew to Indiana and took delivery Dec. 2nd. I paid $23,915.25 including $74 document fee and $1.25 Indiana "wheel tax" for the van. I also had them install a set of the aluminum alloy wheels (much better looking than the EX aluminum wheels and I detest the plastic imitation wheel covers) for $981.34 with a set of wheel locks thrown in. The whole transaction was handled professionally and was totally painless. Now I'm back home in California after 3200 miles of trouble free motoring, visiting friends and relatives on the way back by way of Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. I'm very happy with my Ody, 24 - 25 mpg cruising 75 - 80 mph, zero oil consumption, zero "sample defects" detected so far.

Conclusion: if you can make it to Indiana, contact Scott Maddox <smaddoxdpat.com> at DPatrick Honda. You might also try the other dealers in and around Indianapolis; I suspect they may be open to negotiation from the telephone calls I got. I think the supply/demand situation is starting to ease. My local dealer has just cut his markup on LXs from $2000 to $750, although it's still $2000 on EXs.

Postscript: Three days after I had committed to the Indiana trip, Brandon called me; he had finally got an SS color LX for me. It had a production date 2 days later than the one I ended up with.

Leon 33 or ? Is the Odessey 50 state emission compliant? by 2000bill

Just curious, any problems bring the Odessey into California? Did you have to go to the DMV to pay California sales tax? Did the dealer have special forms to exempt you from Indiana sales tax? Pease let me know the basic procedures, as I've been tempted to buy out of state. Please give both pros and cons. Thanks!

All Odyessys are 50 state compliant. I will have to pay California sales tax when I register. Since my Indiana temporary registration doesn't expire until 1/1/2001 I am hoping to delay registering until Jan. 2. CA sales tax decreases 1/4 percent as of Jan. 1; however I haven't confirmed that this is acceptable. The Indiana dealer didn't have any special form to exempt from Indiana sales tax that I am aware of; I did pay the $74 document fee which I assume included a fee for the temporary registration. Basic produre, call the dealer, place the order, send deposit via check or credit card, show up to take delivery with cashier's check for balance. Pros: get your Ody sooner and cheaper. Cons: expense and time for a trip out of state, CA registration procedure not automatic, possible difficulties with financing (I paid cash). Go for it! I hope everybody reading these posts is smart enough to not pay over MSRP which will eventually force California dealers to cut out the huge markups.

Jay Honda in OH by sailing216

I live right by Jay honda in Cleveland OH. They had 3 Ex's in stock ready to ship. All around Cleveland, $500 off MSRP is the norm. If robs with Jay (doubtful), Mentor Ohio will give the same deal (not sure about shipping), Cleveland Heights Honda (www.motorcarshonda.com)will give same deal with cars coming in and out of stock weekly (3 week wait if ordered), ask for Jim Perdenzak and tell him Mr. Bode sent you. Good luck, I have no idea about shipping when factoring this in, but sounds like typical freight.
