Unfortunately, not everyone filters what they read on the internet. Yes, they "should" take what they read with a grain of thought and rely on their own judgement. My posture on this would (and has been) be the same no matter the make. |

| I been looking for the EXL-Navi plus Backup Camera and Fog Lights. My current best offer is $31,000 Out-the-door. Anyone have any idea what's the invoice price on the Backup Camera and Fog Lights? I'm also thinking adding the 7/100 warranty into the total price which is $31,500 out-the-door. Not sure this is good price or not.... | |
| That seems awfully high for a vehicle that should sell for about 28K at most. For lights are a couple hundred dollars at handa-accessories.com and who needs a back up camera for 3 grand? Just seems awfully high to me. | |
| I tell you what... I believe a lot of dealers use B&S tactics. I had a horrible experience with a Honda Dealer that has forever changed my thinking of dealers/finance managers and will use extreme caution when dealing with them. I trusted that dealer as we signed the papers and it's funny (not really), he said one thing and the papers said the opposite. Financing terms, returning the car within two days, additional fees. NEVER go by the monthly payments. He said it was 60 months and I thought I saw that scrolling down the list but then when I read it a week later it said 66 months. Yes I was niaeve and it was my first time but you know what... they lost a few potential sales with word of mouth. I told everyone to avoid them as much as possible or if you do work with them make sure you are extremely cautious! That was a valuable lesson I learned. | |

No doubt, a lot of the horror stories are true and that's a slap in the face to our industry. Of course, it's your responsibility to read contracts before signing them. Still, there is NO EXCUSE for underhanded treatment by any business. My point was this...the post I was responding to could have been bogus. If that poster was, in fact, for real, the dealership in question may, in fact, have made an honest mistake. It happens to the best of businesses. This is hardly "Bait and Switch"...BIG difference. There are usually at least two sides to every story. |

| This forum really opened my eyes and helped me out a lot in what price to look for. Thank you so much! I'm currently looking for an Odyssey in the CO/WY area. I live in northern Colorado and thought about traveling to Wyoming (1 hour drive) just to save on tax. Well, I got my first internet quote and will be looking for more. I'm looking for a Odyssey EX (no leather, DVD, or GPS) The first quote is $24,981, plus $299 dealer handeling, $763.90 for the Honda accessories, 6.7% taxes-$1744.94, for an out the door total of $27,288.84. Will be looking for others, hopefully I can find a better price. Thanks again for your posts! Keep em coming! | |

hi everybody. I just bought an EX cloth yesterday here in MD. 23,984 base price 490 dest. charge 5% tax and other fees that i really didn't bother about because after spending 2 hours at the dealership i was already having a headache and i really wanted to go home. they also gave me a lo jack ($990.00)that i really don't know nothing about and life and disability insurance. An extended service contract worth 1,589.00. after reading some posts here i realized that i have paid too much for the extended warranty and i would really like to cancel. my concern is can i do that after signing the contract? thanks for any input.

It's funny that there's a whole discussion devoted to the topic with 1300+ posts: Dealer's Tricks - bait & switch, etc. Must be a lot of salespeople out there knocking the competition by posting phony stories! Of course, it really isn't funny at all. Steve, Host |

| mikev_co: You will have to pay sales tax in the state you actually register the vehicle, not the state where you purchase it. So unles you have some way to register the vehicle in WY you will eventually pay the sales tax in CO when you register it there. Thats not to say that I wouldn't go to the next state to save some money on the deal, but the taxes are what they are. Good Luck. | |
