I live in the Sacramento valley, looking for an EX model Odyssey.here's what i found: 1)Autowest Honda in the Roseville Automall-$4995 mark-up above MSRP,pretty stuck on their prices! they have 2 vans in stock-no wonder! 2)Carmichael Honda in Citrus Heights-$1500 mark-up,the vans are ordered by VIN#,about a 3-4 week waiting list.price is firm.even know sales mgr. 3)Elk Grove Honda in Elk Grove, just south of Sac.-$1500 mark-up,price appears firm,no vans in stock 4)Mel Rapton Honda in Sacramento-sell at MSRP,need to be put on waiting list.they're saying it's a 4-6 mo.waiting list(no deposit req'd) though many cases less time, depending on color. 5)University Honda in Davis-MSRP!-need to call them back, looks like a pretty fair waiting list. 6)Shingle Springs Honda, east of sacramento about 20 mi.-never go there!i called yesterday, was quoted MSRP and any options if we like, when i got there, they wouldn't budge below $31000!what a joke.they'll lie just to get ya in and then slam the door in your face.they have a beige EX,though will probably be there a while as it "has"to be sold w/$2995 leather and a few other things.none of the options are even installed on the vehicle. 7)Stockton Honda-south of sacramento a bit-1k above MSRP,which includes mudflaps(whoopie!) 8)Winter Honda in Pittsburgh,CA.(north bay area)- 1k over MSRP,appears firm.none in stock, sales mgr said their eta for another EX in the 18th still looking.............. |

I just purchased a 2001 LX at Airway Honda in Chicago. The van was in inventory (in the showroom) for 3 days WITHOUT a buyer before I showed up on December 7, 2000. I know this because I telephoned the dealership on Dec 4 and was told the details of this van, but then I delayed 3 days before finally going over to take a look and buy. To me, this indicates that there is increasing inventory and availability and subsequently, lower prices, at least in the MidWest. I also visited Lisle Honda (Chicagoland) and for $500 non-refundable deposit (you must sign an agreement and give a credit card number, check, or cash) they would have put me on a waiting list for delivery before Jan 31 2001. They offered me $500 trade in for my awful, rusted, bare-bones 1990 VW Jetta GL with 115,000 miles. The VW needs a entire new exhaust system, axle, and CV Boot for a total of $900 worth of required repairs (I had the VW assessed by 3 auto repair shops before going to the Honda dealer). The "value" of the VW is $1500 according to Kelly Blue Book, BUT that is BEFORE you subtract the $900 of needed repairs. I believe that $500-$700 would be a CORRECT and FAIR price for the VW. This Honda dealer's price was MSRP (about $24,800) which includes the $440 Destination charge, roof-rack, cross-bars, and mud flaps. Thru this website, I know the options are cheaper if you can convience a dealership to either REMOVE them, or lower the price, or buy them yourself through other parts dealerships. If you can avoid it, you should not pay MSRP for minor, easy-to-add options. This dealership chased me for 2 days to get me to finalize my order, indicating they they may need some buyers! At Airway Honda Chicagoland, I spoke with another customer who was there to pick up her 2001 LX. She eye-balled my paperwork on the salesman's desk, and then I asked her later what she had paid for her van. She told me that she also paid the exact same price (MSRP) for the same options (roof rack, cross bars, and mud-flaps ONLY). At Airway Honda, for a mesa beige 2001 Odyssey LX, I paid and took immediate delivery with this deal: Selling Price: $24,851 (Includes $440 Dest, RoofRack, CrossBars, Mudflaps) Trade In: -1,120 (for a 1990 VW Jetta, 115,000 miles which has real value of $500). Doc 47 State Sales Tax 1,664 County Tax 15 License & Title 143 TOTAL 25,600 Here is the win-win for me and the dealership. I got a new 2001 Ody LX with immediate delivery for which I will claim I paid about $600 LESS than sticker price, by virtue of the dealership paying me TOO MUCH for my old junker VW. The dealership gets to claim that they sold the car for MSRP. The moral of the story is that currently that many Honda Dealers will feel un-willing to budge on MSRP for these high-demand Odysseys. It may be difficult to get them to negotiate much on MSRP. If you know a lot about the value of your trade-in, you may be able to negotiate a virtual price-reduction on an Ody, BY getting a good price for a trade-in. My financing deal is 7.31 percent 48 months through Bank of America via the website http://www.lendingtree.com Cheers ! |

Congratulations, Dirtybit. Did you check all the honda ody dealers in chicagoland? Any good deals from other dealers? Tell us how do you feel about the van. |

FYI, you do not have to hit the enter key at the end of each paragraph. The text will automatically word wrap. I'm guessing this is what both of you did in your posts, which would explain the strange formatting. Enjoy your rides! Drew/aling Edmunds.com Townhall host |

Picking up my LX this Wednesday. Price MSRP 23900 + 440 Dest charges. Dealer mentioned security system (LOJACK, which I am not sold on)for $599. Is this a fair price? Are there other options besides the Dealers ? Price seems high. Would appreciate any input. Thanks |

| if you buy ANY security options, make sure you have them installed at the dealership. that way, they're covered by the factory warrantee. you never know what you get otherwise. I sell Hondas, and it never fails to amaze me what people will do to save a few dollars. scrimping on protection, tho, is NOT it. Everything is negotiable (except the vehicle itself - we sell them at MSRP) but don't hurt yourself by going outside the deadership. we sell the vehicle at MSRP, yes, but we do currently guarantee you a vehicle within 6 weeks maximum | |

I like my new LX alot. It was a little freaky when the traction control and the ABS turned on today in the snow because I'm not accustomed to this high-tech stuff. (My 1990 VW Jetta trade-in was very low-tech by comparison). The roomy interior is awesome. Some would say that we're paying for more "air" but bigger IS better, nudge wink. One of the other posts here was from a Honda sales person. She said "everything is negotiable except the vehicle itself... we sell those at MSRP." Two comments: eventually supply will increase so that even the vehicles are regularly sold below MSRP. But the dealers will have to be "persuaded" by hard-negotiating consumers for that to happen. If even ONE Odyssey is on the lot and is not sold yet, the consumer is in the power-position, not the dealership. At Airway Honda Imports in Chicago, where I bought mine 2 days ago, there were 2 unsold Ody's on the lot. I attempted (without success) to get them to reduce the price below MSRP. I DID get them to over-pay me on my trade-in. My current advice: know exactly what your trade-in's true value is. And then try to get 80 to 110 percent of that from the dealer. Both parties save face: the dealer sells at MSRP... but not really! And the buyer gets a new Ody. We're going skiing in Wisconson with the new Ody in just a few weeks. Can't wait! |

A few weeks ago, Edmunds.com indicated there was no holdback for the Ody from the manufacturer to the dealer. Now it indicates that there IS a 2 percent holdback. If this is true, then this is one more reason for the prices paid to start to come down. Does anybody know what the story is on the Holdback? |

| Whuh? $25,100 TMV ( $1200 above MSRP )for Ody LX ? Where is Ms. Edmunds getting her numbers? It seems most people in the Midwest USA are paying at or a little below MSRP, at least according to this forum. Maybe something fishy got mixed up with their "secret sauce". | |
