Deals in Baltimore Area by brunna

My wife finally told me she is ready for a new van. We bought her 1996 Odyssey new, but our family has outgrown it. I have been trolling this board weeding through all the wonderful information available for the past 6 months and now it's time to make it payoff. We just borrowed an EX cloth today for about 5 hours to see if we could fit the family and stuff better than the current van - no brainer. Big difference in all dimensions. Anyway, we returned it and I got a chance to speak with the OWNER of the dealership about the price. We're not friends mind you, but he remembered me from when I purchased my 2000 Civic a few months ago. To make a long story short, he will not part with the EXL-RES for anything less than $29,360, which is $1,000 under MSRP including dest. I got the same quote via email from another dealer in the area as well. Maybe I can do a little better with them if I stop by and show him I'm serious about buying. This owner of the dealer in Bel Air, the sales managers and the sales reps have all been very honest and professional so far, but I told them to call me when they will accept my offer of $1,000 over invoice of $28,360. We'll see. It may give me time to check out the new Sienna anyway. But the wife LOVES the Odyssey. Good to know that the deals are coming in, albeit slowly. Remember people, stick to your guns, offer the dealer a fair profit, but be prepared to walk. Persistence and honesty will win. I'll let you all know my final deal when I make it.

I just went down to pick up our 2003 Ex-L Havasu blue Oddy from Joe Michelotti at Burns Honda today. I spoke with him late December and early January as recommended by nj_oddy_buyer. (Thank you!) He would not go better than that deal, but I think the $1300+ discount off of MSRP (Ex-L at 27,500) is not bad for our area. I did go just under $1000 for the 7yr/100K/0 deductible extended warranty since I plan to hang onto this vehicle for a long time and many posts referencing $875 for the Hondacare warranty were from last spring so prices to dealer may have increased a bit (the finance staffer insisted it was his cost for "bumper to bumper" and other may be a "different level" of Hondacare--don't believe that presentation but felt the deal was within reason). Joe was so easy to deal with via phone and e-mail and made it a painless experience--a real sweetheart! Lack of deceipt or chain-yanking is what would make you return to a salesperson for the next purchase and I'd certainly recommend him to all. If I had known sooner about improved Sienna, I probably would have waited to test those waters and see where prices for Oddys and Siennas would go in April. I have a Corolla that's at 110K with a lot of life left in it and never realized that in Japan Toyota is considered the superior company and its size far outstrips Honda globally and equals our big three U.S. automakers combined. If Sienna takes the best of Oddy features, adds a quieter ride and longer warranty embedded in purchase, that's worth looking at. But if you want Honda, give Joe a call. I followed a lead to a Staten Island dealership mentioned here in the fall, but my end-of-year visit there didn't even yield an offer to put down a deposit for an incoming car. The 75 miles to South Jersey was reasonable given that the best available discount in northern/central Jersey offered was MSRP less $500. I thank all of you for sharing on this board as I've been trolling it for info for two years. My husband was really disappointed I was insisting on a minivan for "my car" to tote our twins around, and since secondary/local roads still had ice patches today, I was nervous taking a new wheel and let him drive my car home. I think he likes it! My turn tomorrow. Just need to follow up with Burns about code needed to reactivate radio/cd if you ever disconnect battery--Keep a short checklist when you go for the car.
Lastly, dealership pushes a window etching program for security, but they don't etch VIN number, its some 3rd party code. If I'd had advnace warning, I would've researched this and asked my insurance agent. I've only read about etching VIN numbers as AAA has such a program in our area. Makes more sense to me to use a number police can access in real time on their mobile computers tapping into DMV database. I passed on the third party program but I would like to do VIN etching. Any strong advice/opinions on this issue?

LX in Tampa FL by tampafl

Does $22893 sound like a good deal for LX with keyless entry/ alarm? Brandon Honda offering deal of $21598 for LX but when you get in they have of course added "performance package" to all models that along with alarm system brings taxable total to $22893. Total including tax, docs and destination ($260) gets me out the door with $25207.00

I am not in need of car until July and this will take about 3-4 weeks for delivery already...Not sure if I should just wait and renegotiate in June or take it and run?

To those buying in Northern Virginia and closeby by tgacek

Ryan and others,

I'd like to start by saying I worked every dealer within 2 hours of Northern Virgina and ended up buying our new 2003 Ody EX-L w/ RES from Dennis Jenkins at Jay Honda in Bedford, Ohio for $1750 under MSRP. Also, the difference in the "processing fees" was also about $200+ (NoVA $200-$290 vs. $50 for Jay Honda) for a close to $2k savings. All the dealers in the NoVA area are in my opinion still playing up the "mystique" in the Ody to not budge from MSRP (more like have you negotiate down to MSRP) and with only a couple back and forth emails/phone calls to Dennis we settled on the price above. Interesting enough I have to thank Landmark Honda in Alexandria, VA for not budging from $250 over MSRP to MSRP because at first after looking all around here I was almost resolved to pay MSRP. Then, when my deal with Landmark fell through (I walked because they wouldn't come down $250 to MSRP...?!#$!) I did more digging and found out about Jay Honda from this discussion board. Several others posted they had good experiences and I would like to stronly reiterate the same! I had an excellent overall experience including a fair price, getting the model I wanted 2 weeks earlier than expected because he was able to do a dealer trade for the same exact model (plus I got free wheel locks to boot from it), and a good review of all the features, etc. I told him I was going to post on here so if you're reading this post Dennis, thanks man! My guess is that it's possible that he might even be able to go more than $1750 below but honestly I had such a good experience that it was worth giving up $250 or so to say thanks in a way.

So, give get a hold of Dennis if you're looking for a good price. It was worth the $100 plane ticket there! Oh yeah, I forgot to mention he also covered my taxi fare from Cleveland Hopkins airport to the dealership. It was only $32 but hey it's small things like that that make for a good buying experience.

Lastly, to all us NoVA folks, let's start spreading the word and getting people to buy them out of state. Not only will they save $$$ but it will send a message to the dealers around here that they need to start wheelin' a little.

Cheers all,
tim

Tim,

Thanks for the information. That is an excellent deal. I actually live in Southeastern Virginia, specifically Virginia Beach area. I would guess that Bedford, Ohio is over 7 hours away, but I may still email them and ask for Dennis. The best deal I have been offered down here is $650 under MSRP. The other issue with me is I would like to trade in our SUV. If I could get a similiar deal, I would probably try to sell my SUV on my own. Thanks again. RC

This is VERY interesting! The first time I have seen a decent deal on the LX! The LX has an MSRP for $24860 (including destination). The Keyless option runs $278 (+ install $126).

Questions - Did it have a CD player? Did it have alloy wheels?

Bottom line, that combination totals an MSRP of $25264. $22893 implies $2371 OFF MSRP (INVOICE is $22417+keyless&install). VERY GOOD DEAL!!!

This is what I was expecting to see after the 04 Sienna was introduced... Then again, I think we are about to go to war...

Tampa FL LX price by tampafl

No CD player, No alloy wheels.

I just found my notes from the dealership and it looks like I was a little off. The total before tax is $23,291 and not $22893 as I earlier reported ($398 more). I still think, and tell me if you think I am wrong, that this is still a good deal. What makes me so mad is that $1295 of it is the cost for the "performance package" which is garbage to me. They won't take it off. I am going to try and negotiate other dealer added options that have more value to me. I live in Florida, I don't need mud flaps. The door guards and wheel well guards they use are about 1 cm wide.

I am trying to make a smart decision while heading into what could be an even worse economy. I am buying this LX and putting some cash into it so that if I have to sell it I will be in a great equity position and then I can go buy a Huyandi or something...Can you tell I am always thinking of worse case scenario??!!!

Any input appreciated on my deal...I wonder if I should wait since I don't need a car until July??? I am scared to pass this up.

If you are unsure, check the honda website. Price it out with the options they showed you (the honda site has a small "price applet" that allows you to customize selections and price your desired vehicle). I still think you have found a VERY good deal. I have been watching this board pretty closely since it was created (September 2000) and this is the first time I have seen $2000 off an LX. This is actually the price point I have been looking for, unfortunately, I live in the Twin Cities.

I think I am going to wait until I see the 2004 Sienna before I pull the trigger. I have three kids and having the split 3rd bench is something I find VERY attractive, nonetheless, CASH IS KING! The best "deal" will get my business. For comparison puposes, the 04 BASE Sienna will sticker just under $23000.

If I were sold on the Honda, I would make this deal... As long as I could get the Midnight Blue!

Good Luck!
