From the buyer's side, my local Honda dealer tells me that every time I give them a chance to match an offer. They say the offer I got is not real, the price will be different when I go to buy at the other dealer. It NEVER happened to me.
So buyer be cautious, but in my experience I've had 100% success with the high volume low price dealers (5 new Hondas since 2004).

Would you guys say destination charges are set in stone? So when some of you are saying $500 above invoice would that include the destination charge or not?

Well you're dealing with a straight shooter and that is a good thing.
I did have to deal with prices that weren't real. Sometimes the customers were lying and other times, I just knew "something" had to change when the customer arrived or that maybe an honest mistake had been made. It happens.
I could always tell when they were lying and it was pretty funny. They would tell me that ABC Honda would sell a particular car for a certain price. I price that I knew was impossible. I would tell the customer..." Wow...that's a great deal! I can't do that and you should probably buy it there!"
" Well, what is YOUR price?"
" It doesn't matter. I can't lose that much money...that is where you should buy it"
" But...what is YOUR price"?
It's also possible that that other store just doesn't want to sell a car that cheap.
It is nice you give your local dealer a chance at your business!

The destination charge is set in stone, encased in concrete, and wrapped in plutonium.
It is what the manufacturer pays to have the vehicle shipped to a dealer.
Be very leery of any post that doesn't disclose ALL relevant information.

That's true. Dealers have no control over destination charges. They have to pay them and the simply pass them along.
Cars are the only thing I know of that seperates destination charges. If we buy a new refrigerator, we pay destination charges. They are just buried in the price.
