I spoke to someone at Honda (the number has a 310 area code) regarding Havasu Blue. She did say that the April allotment will not be delivered until sometime in May or longer. Not what I wanted to hear since I have ordered a Havasu Blue in the June allotment. Oh well, since my dealer and I have agreed on a delvery date, I will probable hold off for the 2003 since he will not meet that date. Anyone else hear anything?

Last fall I emailed Honda East about their pricing, since I'd read that they would deal and so few are available up here in NW Indiana and Chicago. The response was very prompt and stated that they would go $500 under MSRP, but I've no idea if they will still do that. (This happened the week before the trans on our 96 Grand Caravan completely quit at 52k, had to drop about $2600 on a reman and installation, so we're still driving it for awhile. Sigh......)

So where do I look at this color to determine if I like it. Is it light blue, silver blue, dark blue, or what? Any changes for 2003 like a split third row? Anyone looking to wait for the '03 Sienna to compare? Prices seem to be MSRP for EXL in So Cal, with dealer installed aftermarket Audiovox DVD (not including the VCR, which I will need) is Toooooooo much at $2400 and don't seem willing to give too much for car. Again, seems easier here to get regular EX with cloth for about MSRP, maybe a few hundred less if there are a few vans on lot. Also, cloth seats are sooooooo hard, are leather seats any more comfy for those of you who have compared?

The new Schaefer & Strominger in Bel Air, MD made the deal over the phone for $26,500 for the EX. The 4 that were coming in between mid-May and end of June had no waiting list as of a week ago (1 silver, 2 green and 1 red), but things change quickly it seems. I spoke with Jennifer the sales manager. Colonial Honda in Perryville stil had a couple overloaded EX's for $29-$30 ($2000 discount over their inflated sticker they say!). Good luck!

JUST PURCHASED BEIGE ODY EX MODEL FOR $26,700, STICKER WAS $27,210.00. WITH DELIVERY OF 3RD WEEK IN MAY. THEY HAD NO ODYS ON THE LOT FOR SALE. THEY ONLY HAD THEIR TEST DRIVE MODEL, WHICH WAS A LITTLE SCRATCHED UP, AND A CUSTOMERS WHICH WAS BEING PREPPED FOR PICKUP. NO HAGGLING HERE, EITHER YOU WANT IT OR Don't. ASKED ABOUT AAA, INTERNET, OR PAYING CASH FOR A DISCOUNT. WAS TOLD THAT AAA IS ONLY GOOD ON CERTAIN MODELS, ODY NOT ONE OF THEM. WITH INTERNET REQUESTS FOR BEST PRICE, THE SALESMAN SAID THEY ARE OFFERED LIST OR ABOVE. HE SAID THE BETTER PRICE GOES TO THOSE WHO TAKE THE TIME TO WALK INTO THE SHOWROOM. AND AS FAR AS CASH PAYMENT, THEY DON'T CARE. THE ODY SELLS ITSELF. HE SHOWED US A 3 PAGE ORDER/ WAITING LIST FOR ALL ODY MODELS. DEPENDING ON THE COLOR YOU ORDER, IS HOW LONG YOUR DELIVERY WILL BE. MY WIFE WANTED EVERGREEN PEARL, THAT WOULD OF BEEN A JULY DATE (SO SHE QUICKLY CHANGED HER MIND TO BEIGE). HE SAID SILVER IS THE MOST POPULAR, AUGUST DELIVERY. AND AS FAR AS HAVASU BLUE(TO ME IT LOOKS LIKE A LIGHT GRAY), HE WOULDN'T EVEN OFFER IT TO A CUSTOMER. THE AVAILABILTY OF THAT COLOR IS NOT PREDICTABLE. HE SAID YOU MIGHT BE TALKING SEPT/OCT DELIVERY. THE REASON BEIGE WAS AVAILABLE , IT IS PART OF THEIR MAY DELIVERY, AND WASN'T SOLD YET. NOT THAT POPULAR OF A COLOR. SO WE TOOK IT(WIFE AND DAUGHTER LOVED THE COLOR WITH BEIGE INTERIOR). $100 DOWN, THEY'LL DO XFER OF PLATES FOR $15, AND ALL PAPER WORK $20. I'VE SEEN ON THE BOARD SOME PEOPLE PAYING $250 FOR PAPERWORK. THE 1ST HONDA LOT WE WENT TO, STARTED AT $28,500 FOR THE EX. AND THEY HAD SEVERAL SITTING ON THE LOT. THE PUSHY SALESPERSON TRIED SELLING US WITH "WE HAVE VIN# AND ALL PAPERWORK" DRIVE IT HOME TODAY. APPARENTLY THAT SALES PITCH ISN'T WORKING.

Wall Street Journal Article by 2000ody

Any thoughts on the article in today's WSJ? The Personal Journal section had an article stating that now is the time to play hardball with the dealers when buying a minivan and specifically the Honda Odyssey. The article stated that $500 off MSRP on the Ody is now routine. The article went on to say that overall minivan sales are declining as buyers move to SUV's and sport wagons.

Any comments from those actually in the trenches?

Anyone happen to know how I can contact Steve? We had a deal worked out on an Ody, but when I called Crown this morning, I was informed that he 'no longer works there,' and that noone (including the GSM) has any idea how I might be able to track him down.

Steve offered me his home number on several occasions, but I refused to take it, as I had no intention of ever calling him at home. Guess I wish I would've taken it after all now...

I'd have to say that I can believe it. My first choice has been an SUV since minivans are just not cool - I almost put down a deposit on the Pilot but after reading enough about it I decided it just isn't worth it to worry about my "image" on the road. The minivan is just more practical for a 2-3 kid family. So perhaps more people are moving away from the minis in favor of the SUV and hence the downward price pressure. I'll at least use the article as a tool, albeit a weak one.
