Got quote for 2009 Honda Odyssey LX for $21,589 (which include destination and dealer precessing fee), is it a good price?

First of all, tell yourself your the customer, he is not doing you a favor, he is doing his job. I'd suggest narrow your dealers via email or phone. Get the salesman/saleswoman's name. If you don't like the vibe, don't ask for him/her. If you don't like the deal so elsewhere.

Oh yeah, you could print some of these prices listed here, but I'm sure he knows what these vans are going for...I'd also recomend www.odyclub.com.
Best of luck to you.

2009 EX (no L, RES or NAV) by takoma442

Hi all, I've been reading the past few month's posts and my head's swimming. Might I ask a little advice. I'm in the Wash DC area and looking for an EX. I don't want the leather, sunroof or RES. I'm going aftermarket for an Eclipse AVN in-dash Nav and Backup camera system for about $2000. I figure that I'm still saving about $4000 net over the EX-L RES NAV. I have assumed that the 2008s are all gone.

I've received first offer e-mail quotes that seem good. Here's an example:
2009 Odyssey EX is $23,800.00 plus destination charge $670, processing fee $89, tax, and tags.

What I don't understand is that's less than invoice of $26,601 less $2,250 rebate (which would be $24,351). So what's up? Are there more rebates that I'm missing? Are we now into holdback territory? If I understand it right, Honda has a 3% holdback on MSRP ($29,335) which is $880. So dealer net cost on an EX should be $23,471. I can't believe that I'm really getting offers that are within $400 of net dealer cost, so I'm wondering what's missing from my math.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I think you are looking at it correctly. The way I see it dealers are willing to give up a big chunk of the holdback in order to move cars. They make some money back on the doc fees. And then try to sell you additional accessories, extended warranty, and maybe make some money on your trade-in and financing.

They must be trying to move inventory. When I asked dealers what colors they had in stock 2 of the 3 dealers had every color and the third had every color but white.

I just closed a deal yesterday on the above vehicle in Ocean Mist. Paid 33,500 OTD. Very happy with the deal - $300 under invoice plus the 2250 incentive included. Might have done better but dealer needs to make some money too. Most dealers were very willing to go into their holdback money but I had trouble locating the color and options we wanted which limited my bargaining power some. Very helpful info on this forum helped me along. Thank you.

If you think the deal is great, just jump into it and forget about how the dealer makes a profit. Let the dealer worries about that section.
As the other poster indicated, dealer can make money on many different ways, even in some that we will never know. Do you know AHFC gives dealer $500 for each buy-out of lease?
