Whether it's down the street or 100 miles away, you must always be willing to walk away if the dealer tries to pull some crap.

Good advice there..

100 miles? That's an hour and a half..

Three hours of your time on a Saturday? I spend that much time looking at cars, just for sport..

New 08 Touring in Southwest by bigsmoky

Just purchased a new 2008 Ody Touring (no PAX). Price $33,750 plus $250 dealer add-ons (could not avoid) and $400 documentation (many dealers charged $350 for documentation) = $34,400 plus tax/title.
This model was difficult to find. By mid Dec, there were none left in CA and only a few on AZ.

We ended up purchasing from Right Honda in Scottsdale, AZ. Internet sales dept was very helpful.

There were few dealers who gave competitive quotes in our SoCal area.
Dealers who were helpful and had seemed to have good internet sales depts:
Galpin Honda
Honda of Corona
SanTan Honda

Incidentally, several 08 RES/NAVS were still available in SoCal and AZ. Quotes we received were $29,400 plus tax/title.

Which dealers in SoCal did you find (get quotes from) that had 2008 EX-Ls with RES & NAV? I'm willing to drive 100 miles from SoCal (LA/OC border).

For reference
I got the following as my lowest quote on a 2009 EX-L w/ RES & NAV (local dealer in SoCal)

Invoice: $37,525 (including destination)
Offer : $33684 (before doc fees $55, TTL)

I need to buy the vehicle before 2008 ends for tax purposes, so I'm in a hurry and my job isn't affording me much time other than emailing.

How does this 2009 quote sound to those of you in the market?

I am in Wisconsin, so a totally different market, but the internet offers I have been getting have been roughly 25-25.5k for EX-L, 27-27.5 for EX-L with RES (if you can find one--I can't), and 29-29.5 for EX-L with RES and NAV. All dealers are quoting about the same thing for each model, give or take around $500.

These are all 2008 prices, but that's a solid $4k off what you are hearing for 2009s, which is worth a drive IMO.

Do you NEED a 2009 RES+Navi? Or are you just considering that because the 2008's are drying up? Saving about $4,000 seems to be the norm in taking 2008 vs 2009 on the RES+Navi. I would look for a dealer that will bring in a 2008 Res+Navi for you from another dealer if necessary and save the 4 grand on essentially the same van (especially if you don't mind white. Seems there are more of these left than anything else). Dealers hungry enough to bring in a van for you from another dealer are out there.

Dealer trade on 2008 by chwtom

Has anyone out there recently been able to get a dealer to do a dealer trade for a 2008 Odyssey? I'm looking for a 08 EXL with DVD (no nav), but haven't found one in my state of wisconsin. Most of the dealers say they won't do a dealer trade for an 08, but one said they would get one from Illinois. I'd like to think he will, but when everyone else says they won't it makes me skeptical.

Found a 2008 EX-L w/ RES & NAVI by dr_g

So I finally found one in SoCal but it's a Demo model that was used by the dealership supposedly - has about 5K miles on it. Externally looks pretty clean except a little scuff on front fender, interior looks clean but not new.

They said they would do 10 cents/mile which too me sound crappy ($500 off). Also, it's a white one which I don't care much for. Figuring I can get them to do 29-29.5k, would 28.5-29k sound reasonable for one with 5000 miles on it?

I just had a dealer local to us do a trade on a 2008 EX-L with RES+NAVI. It's covered in post #21157. Just a hair over $29k before TTL. Very satisfied. Did you email ALL the dealers within 100 miles of you, even those that don't show stock?

I don't know where you are in WI, but I just did a search for any 2008 Odyssey within 200 miles of Allentown WI and came up with 184 NEW 2008 Odysseys on Autotrader.com. Start sending emails to each of those dealers and work it!

Sounds like a crap deal to me. White 2008 EX-L with RES/Navi are all over the place NEW on the west coast (I know, I saw a ton when we were looking for the Silver one we eventually got). FEW seem to want them. If you go for it, I would ask for the $500 AND a 5 year honda care warranty extension.

Autotrader.com shows more than 50 2008 EX-L Odysseys within 100 miles of Newhall (just picked a random city near LA). There's a brand new 2008 Odyssey deal in there. Have you emailed ALL the dealers (even those with one or less in stock - they might be hungry enough to do a dealer trade)?

2008 Odyssey EXL with RES 26999 +TTL by i4gotmyid

I got a quote for EX-L with RES for 26999, which would be OTD for about 29365 in Florida...it seems like a good deal.

I did the bidding thing, where I had dealers bid against one another.

There is still one dealer, about 75 miles away who says he will beat this price by "atleast $500" but wont give me a quote, either written or over the phone, he says I have to come it to get the pricing...is he blowing smoke...the conversations were NOT good over the phone, he was really evasive/pushy and had a shady feeling...Can he really only offer me a better "deal" in person rather than fax/email/phone? Or is he going to bring me in for a hard sell.
