I know the trade in is killing us on the purchase but thought we could get a great price before the end of the end of the year and the financing at 1.9% is a teaser.
I did a lot of price shopping on the internet and that has not gotten me very far or should I say close to my price! They just do not want to budge much.
Were you able to negotiate via email any better? I tried to pull the "I will come pick it up today for that price" and "I will give you all high marks on a review"
I still had no luck and they stopped emailing me! I actually purchased the CRV for a lower than internet priced as a walk in customer. I thought I would do the same but I think they try to pull your chain more.
One internet dealer actually raised the quoted price on me!

First, I'd leave the trade off the table.

Second, email ALL the dealers (whether they show stock or not on autotrader.com) with your specific request and the mention of the 100% score on the satisfaction survey to the dealer you close the deal with. That's IT - don't make it too wordy, and don't tell them about your aunt sally's love of red cars. Overly chatty turns off some people. The dealer I eventually went with didn't even have stock on the one I wanted, but they had the best quote, even AFTER doing a dealer trade to bring in the one we wanted, so zero 2008 stock should not stop your initial email to any dealer in range.

From what you get back, start paring down the possibilities. Almost 50% of my initial emails went unanswered. No biggie, I didn't need them if they didn't need a sale. I had plenty of quotes to choose from. I WAITED a couple days and the really competent ones emailed ME to see how they fared. From there, it was just small details and the deal was done with a final quote. I walked into the store, did the honda financing deal, signed the sales contract and was out of there in about 70 minutes total (most of which was waiting on the financing part to be approved). About as close to a 100% internet deal as you can get, I think.

Not everyone in every region get the bottom price 25,000. Try another way which is email your local dealers with same form letter and see how low they can go.

The 08 is getting less and less and the big price different with 09 model lead dealers not rush them out the door.

Since it's been three months since I bought, I'll reveal that it was purchased from Mall of Georgia Honda. They still show 18 2008's on the lot.

Again, it was $25000 for an EXL inclusive of destination & the "processing fee". Only extras were tax, tag & lemon fees.

2008 EX-L RES+Navi in CA breakdown by hondaphan

I couldn't edit the initial post I made, so here's the post with the breakdown of the 2008 Odyssey EX-L RES+Navi we picked up this weekin Northern California. We got the price down to $29,059. Invoice was $36,445, our OTD price was $31,532. Here's the breakdown:

Base price $29,059
Tax $2110
Doc $55
DMV /license $308

OTD price $31,532

Very nice experience at Crown Motors in Redding on this sale. The internet staff is ace.

The *only* thing we don't like about the van so far is the armrests on the front seats. They're multi-position, but if you lift them up, you have to "re-find" the height you prefer. It's really annoying. Otherwise, the van's a huge upgrade from our 2000 Odyssey we bought new (and waited on a 6 month list back then!). They've added SO many features!

I am now in the 27000 price for an 08 Oddy with RES + tax. The only problem is that I have a trade in and the dealership is 100 miles away. There are just not many left in the Cincy area. Is is worth it to go that far to buy a car and then if the deal goes sour for some reason they have you there! Any thoughts?

Here's another thing that you might try. Make your out-of-town deal on the new van and then supply the store with a highly accurate and objective description of your trade (include all optional equipment) and send them some high quality pics. They might be willing to give you a firm number subject to the vehicle matching your representation.

Whether it's down the street or 100 miles away, you must always be willing to walk away if the dealer tries to pull some crap.
