I'd stay away from 2003 and 2002 models because of the transmission problems. 2004 is top rated by consumer reports, no transmission problems. 2005 is rated OK, 2006 and 2007 are rated very good. If I were looking I'd go 2004 or 2006. I've owned a 2003 and currently own a 2007 Touring.

2008 Honda Oddyssey EXL or +res by cincyody

Hello all,
I am new to this forum and am looking for some good advice! We are in the market for an Odyssey and do not want to have to pay more than we have to. We have scoured dealers on the internet and locally to get the prices offered on this forum but noone seems to budge!
They almost kick us out the door or do not email us anymore! Is this a tactic or are they really not interested in selling to us at 25000 for exl and 26300 for RES?
End of the year is here, the colors are very few and they still won't budge.....what gives! Should I wait or just give them the extra $600 they want? Help!
PS this is in the Cincinnati area.

Cincy - What I would do is do a search in this forum to see what others are paying or at least getting offered.
It could also be a geographic thing. I know in Phoenix, the dealers were not as quick to negotiate as they are on the east and west coast for 08 EX-L.
Try that for starters...

Thanks for the response. Did you purchase both of your Odysseys new?

My only advice if you're looking at the older touring where PAX wasn't optional is to NOT get it. They made PAX optional later on the touring because it's a TERRIBLY EXPENSIVE thing to maintain. $1500 to replace tires (almost twice as frequently as normal, too) is what you can expect instead of $500-600 for a nice set of regular tires that last twice as long. You can't downgrade a PAX unit, either, so you're stuck with the expense over the life of the van. It's one reason the used Touring Odysseys with PAX are so cheap many places - the word is out on how lame PAX really is.

In my experience, the lowest prices are at Performance on Rt 4..

Might take some time and gnashing of teeth, but they usually will have the best price...

Thanks for the advice! I will not go anywhere near a Honda with the PAX system. After reading your post, I checked another blog and it was nothing but bad news about that system.

Thanks for fast response! I actually went to Performance Honda and they told me not to waste my time! I came in there with an offer of 25000 for the EXL and wanted a good price on my trade in. I did not think that was too much to ask, but I do not think they were impressessed when I pulled out the "folder" that had NADA and KBB prices. I also had prices paid around the country that verified my offer. Anyway I think they were either laughing at my offer or thought I would comeup on it.

Seriously, the email rodeo is the best method to get a price near the rock-bottom. Look up all the dealers within a hundred miles or two, email ALL of them, and pick the best one. In fact, I set up an email JUST for my honda shopping "hondaodyssey2008quest" at a free provider (gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc), and used a name not exactly like my own until I picked the quote I wanted to pursue. Wasting your time in person before you have a hard quote you like is just that - a waste. Also, a trade-in muddies the waters. You're probably going to get your best deal selling the trade-in car on your own.

I know the trade in is killing us on the purchase but thought we could get a great price before the end of the end of the year and the financing at 1.9% is a teaser.
I did a lot of price shopping on the internet and that has not gotten me very far or should I say close to my price! They just do not want to budge much.
Were you able to negotiate via email any better? I tried to pull the "I will come pick it up today for that price" and "I will give you all high marks on a review"
I still had no luck and they stopped emailing me! I actually purchased the CRV for a lower than internet priced as a walk in customer. I thought I would do the same but I think they try to pull your chain more.
One internet dealer actually raised the quoted price on me!
