OTD = Out-The-Door

Dealers claim they passed the manufacturer to dealer incentive to buyer, so buyer pays the tax re this. I believe it is gray area that some dealers charge, while others won't.

I doubt if dealer is just trying to pocket the it as profit but call it a sales tax on incentive. One way to know that is in the final purchase contract, they mention the sales tax collected. Calculate and see that sales tax amount is on price or price+$3500.

Can someone confirm this who has bought and paid the sales tax on $3500 recently?

I am getting ready to purchase and the quote I received was the final price (minus tax because they were unsure at the time of my tax rate) and I specifically asked if the incentive was taxed. The response was "no." I then asked the questions to make sure that the incentive isn't considered as something like money down. The response again was no. They said if I walked into the dealership with an amount of the final price plus tax on that final price, then I am good. This is in Colorado.

I purchased 2008 at 33600 + tax. For that price they gave me mud flaps and window etching. (Nimbus grey without pax) Had 2006 with pax and hated the tires. Ride w/o pax is much better.

FYI; In Colorado, CRS 42-3-107(I)(a)(III) "For the purposes of this section, "actual purchase price" means the gross selling price, including all property traded to the seller in exchange for credit toward the purchase of a vehicle"

In other words, the price you and the dealer agree on minus the trade (If any) is the amount taxable and thus becomes the 'actual purchase price'.

Which dealer in Colorado?

Hi, I am in Boulder area and new to this group.

Could you tell me the quote you got for EXL or EXL-RES and which dealership you are going to buy? It would be great. I have been very frustrated to get the popular price which those people got in other state, e.g EXL for $25,3000 and EXL-RES for $26,600.

My best quote of EXL-RES is $28,092, plus tax only from Fisher Honda. I haven't sit down to dig out what else I have to pay. I am very dispointed by Burt-Kuni Honda. I only got a phone call from "Go Honda" which they are willing to give the price with the invoice price-$31,282 (including destination charge) minus $3,500, plus the dealer handling fee ($499).

There are still a lot of 2008 Odyssey on the lot, I have no idea why the Colorado dealers still want to sell the vans with higher price than other state.

Thanks!

Jian

I bought mine from Honda Grand in Elmhurst,Illinois on 09/21/2008

Sale Price: $28700
Doc Fee: $150.00
Tax: $2345.
New Plates: 143.00
OTD: $31,338.00

But it was not on APHC special 2.99 financing , also finance guy tricked me and sold extended 7/100k/0Ded warranty for $1885 (which i know is a ripoff). I Read the fine prints and it has 60 day cancellation time period. I am looking into online warranty but not sure which one to get. Dealer actually warned me of buying any warranties other than the dealer, mentioning that Honda will not honor it if they win the class action lawsuit. Is that True?

Also he added $3500 in price cost adding taxes on that which I argued. so the taxes little went up to $200. There is always a Catch 22 with these guys no matter what you do.

I got the SAME EXACT QUOTE from fisher a month ago plus the 1,000 since the manufacturer cash was 2,500 at that time. 29,090 plus their stupid dealer handling fee and their documentation fee's (dont forget to ask bout them). I've also noticed that the Colorado dealers invoice price is higher that the Edmund's invoice price. They must not be that desperate around here, one dealer told me; "why should we give you the holdback!" ; that was Mile-High.

Burt-Kuni would not deal with me at all. They gave me some crappy price and told me that that was the best he could do.. I gave them a bad review when honda wanted feedback.

I settled with Honda of Greeley on 08-11-08, they sold me the van EXL-RES for 29,000 (including their dealer prep and doc fees) + tax. I had at least four dealers around the same ballpark but only Greeley would include their prep and docs fees in the selling price. Over all it was a good experience. I haggled over email and phone.

Good Luck

MSRP 36554
Price 29554
+ txs, doc fee etc.

I told the dealer i saw the prices people were paying and they were ready to deal. But they wouldn't give the 0.9 or 2.9 financing. But I was going to put 12k down, so the financing was not a better deal for the 36 month plan. The deal breaker came when I introduced my 02 MDX for a trade (after I said I had no trade) and they only wanted to give me 7500 for a super clean MDX. We'll see if they come back with a better offer. Does anyone know if the touring rides better than the EXL?
