Thanks a lot for the info!

I am shooting for an EX-L. I contacted a few dealers in metro area. So far the best beat I got is $25300 before tax + etc. I think it is a solid deal. How do you think? I might pull the trigger sometime this week.

If your price already include destination charge then $25,300 is an excellent price for EXL in my opinion.

Purchasing tomorrow - Either EXL or EXL - RES by samani83

I am pulling the trigger tomorrow and will make up my mind tonight on whether I want an EXL or EXL - RES. I have received many quotes and have it norrowed down to one dealership, Grand Honda in Elmhurst, IL, who is offering the best rates in the area.

Price for EXL

Base Price - 24,675 (Including Destination)
+ TT and all the other crap (I'm in Chicago so I will have to pay the insane 9% tax on the car price as well as the 3500 incentive.)

OTD PRICE - 28,320.04

Price for EXL - RES

Base Price - 26,475 (Including Destination)
+ TT and all the other crap (I'm in Chicago so I will have to pay the insane 9% tax on the car price as well as the 3500 incentive.)

OTD PRICE - 30,286.54

I asked if any additional accessories will be thrown in and the answer was no since this is the absolute low they can go for the price.

Tell me what you guys think. Any suggestions/tips will be helpful.

I don't understand - why would *you* have to pay the incentive?

And since I'm a newb on these forums, what does OTD mean?

Thanks.

OTD = Out-The-Door

Dealers claim they passed the manufacturer to dealer incentive to buyer, so buyer pays the tax re this. I believe it is gray area that some dealers charge, while others won't.

I doubt if dealer is just trying to pocket the it as profit but call it a sales tax on incentive. One way to know that is in the final purchase contract, they mention the sales tax collected. Calculate and see that sales tax amount is on price or price+$3500.

Can someone confirm this who has bought and paid the sales tax on $3500 recently?

I am getting ready to purchase and the quote I received was the final price (minus tax because they were unsure at the time of my tax rate) and I specifically asked if the incentive was taxed. The response was "no." I then asked the questions to make sure that the incentive isn't considered as something like money down. The response again was no. They said if I walked into the dealership with an amount of the final price plus tax on that final price, then I am good. This is in Colorado.

I purchased 2008 at 33600 + tax. For that price they gave me mud flaps and window etching. (Nimbus grey without pax) Had 2006 with pax and hated the tires. Ride w/o pax is much better.

FYI; In Colorado, CRS 42-3-107(I)(a)(III) "For the purposes of this section, "actual purchase price" means the gross selling price, including all property traded to the seller in exchange for credit toward the purchase of a vehicle"

In other words, the price you and the dealer agree on minus the trade (If any) is the amount taxable and thus becomes the 'actual purchase price'.

Which dealer in Colorado?
