Replying to: sd_vanbuyer (May 30, 2008 8:09 pm) I'm essentially down to 28,000 with special financing, 27,000 w/o special financing. That's the best I can do in my area. We're going to pull the trigger today. Turns out that if I can get Honda financing to get me a rate of 4.34%, like a previous poster, that I would save $420 over the life of the loan vs the 2.9% at the higher price. We'll see today. So if things go well. I should be 27,000 base price 1375 tax 289 doc fee 24 title 28688 OTD.

| Today I bought a 2008 Odyssey EX-L with RES, Nimbus Gray with splash guards and pinstripes. After test-driving the minivan this week Monday, I e-mailed all of the Atlanta, Georgia area dealers on Tuesday, using the donkey punch method. Over the next couple days, I received eleven quotes. I e-mailed the lowest quote to the other ten dealers, asking whether they could beat it and indicating my goal was to buy the car for $30,000 even, out the door, including tax (7% DeKalb County, Georgia sales tax), tag, title, destination, doc fee, Georgia Lemon Law fee, and all other costs, fees, and charges of any kind. About three dealers got aggressive with their pricing, and I played them off of each other. I bought the minivan this morning for the best quote I received: $30,255 out the door, everything included, from Honda Mall of Georgia. Paid with cash. I worked the donkey punch method pretty hard, so I think this was about the lowest price I could have gotten from any dealer in the Atlanta area at this time. It didn't hurt that today is the last day of the month, and most of the dealers seemed motivated to sell. One dealer, Hennessy Honda, stood out for the professionalism of its Internet sales person. While their price ($30,500) was not the lowest quote I received and I did not ultimately buy from them, it almost would have been worth spending an extra $245 to avoid the games some of the dealers tried to play (even with all communication being by e-mail). Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase and highly recommend the donkey punch method. | |

I finally pulled the trigger after many months of studying. I did this deal with 2.9% financing for 60 months, otherwise I would have gotten it for $1000 less if I had paid cash or secured financing on my own. I did not trade in an old vehicle, nor did I put any money down. The finance guy did try to play games with me, and I tore him a new one. One serious piece of advice: Make sure the numbers you agree to on the deal sheet are copied over EXACTLY onto the finance contract. My dealer added the "dealer fee" for $600 onto the finance agreement when it had been crossed out on the deal sheet, and tried to get me to sign the finance agreement without looking it over. Never pay extra for mud flaps, door guards or pin striping, etc. Tell them you don't want it and they'll give it to you anyway for free. Do NOT buy the Honda Care extended warranty or the service contract from the finance guy. You can get the Honda Care elsewhere after the sale at the new car rate up to the first 6,000 miles on your vehicle. Also, Honda does NOT have a service contract program, it's from a 3rd party vendor and it is a rip! Here's my deal: $ 27835.00 for EX-L (no RES and no NAV) 6.50 tire/battery disposal fee 1695.49 6.5% sales tax in Palm Beach County, FL 306.65 Registration/title/documentation fees $ 29843.64 Out the door!!!! Monthly finance payment $534.97 |
