2008 Touring in Southeast by jbm160

Just wanted to post my experiences with my recent purchase of an '08 Touring. We actually leased with the promotional money factor so did not get any of the dealer cash, but I'll lower my numbers by $2K to reflect what the purchase price would have been. We live in Nashville and started with the local dealers but none of them had our color (Nimbus Gray) and it was apparent from the get-go that they would not be very competitive on price. Crest Honda wanted $36,500 which included a $500 charge for them to go pick one up in Indiana. I started getting quotes online around the SE. Sheehy Honda in Virginia opened with one of the best offers at $33720 + dest. + $369 customer service fee. West Side Honda in Knoxville had our second choice color (slate green) and quoted me $33530 including dest. + $399 doc fee, no accessories or add-ons. That was actually the best price I received, but we ended up purchasing from Gwinnett Place Honda in Atlanta because they had our color in stock and had a very competitive price of $34189 including destination, splash guards, moonroof visor and "protection package" although we didn't get the rubber mats. Doc fee was $399 and there were no surprises when I showed up to get the car. Hope this helps anybody looking in the South.

Love the car, BTW. Came down to Odyssey vs. Sienna, and I think honestly the difference for me was the stupid lockout feature on the Sienna navigation when you're moving. I have an Acura RL and use the navigation all the time (same system as the Odyssey). I can't believe that Toyota handicaps their system like that; ridiculous!

Check out the Odyssey Leasing Experiences forum for more specific answers. The promotional Odyssey money factor right now is 0.00095 which comes out to 2.28%. Of course that's with approved credit (> 720 I think). The other number you need to calculate your payment is the residual which is the percentage of value the car retains at the end of the lease (as a % of MSRP). The residual varies based on the mileage of your lease. For my recent Touring lease, the residual on a 15K/yr lease was 53%. Also don't forget to include the $595 AHFC lease acquisition fee which gets capitalized but doesn't necessarily show up on any paperwork. Make sure you negotiate your purchase price just as hard as you would if you were purchasing, but remember that you won't get any of the $2000 dealer incentives if you use Honda's promotional money factor. Good luck!

There's a dealer advertising a 07 Touring with Res and Nav for $29,995 + des & doc. What do you guys and gals think? We were looking at a 08 EX-L with the Res & Nav. We like some of the extras of the touring, but did not want to pay the extra 3-4K. for a 08. Basically a 07 Touring for the same or cheaper than what I can get a 08 EX-L for.

I really don't know much about EX pricing, but you could probably get a good answer in the Leasing forum. I personally think it's always best to know exactly what they are rolling into the lease so you can make sure you're getting the correct money factor and so you know how much the dealer is making on the deal and can compare different offers. Or, run the numbers on a lease calculator the way you think it's supposed to be, and if their payment is close to what you're expecting then it's probably fine. For leasing an Odyssey, I would use this forum to figure out what price you should be able to get on the car, but then go to the leasing forum to figure out what payments you should have. Remember that to the dealer it's all the same, lease or purchase, because they are selling the car to the leasing company. Only difference is that some incentives (such as the $2K dealer support) don't apply to leases.

That sounds like a good price; is it a demo? The only real differences I'm aware of (other than minor styling changes) between the '07 and '08 Touring are Bluetooth hands-free and an MP3 player/auxiliary input jack on the '08. With their emphasis on safety, I don't know how they justify not putting Bluetooth HandsFreeLink on all of their cars! The only other concern I can think of with buying an '07 at this point is if you were not going to keep the car very long or were planning to lease. The resale value or residual will likely be higher on the '08 but that difference should decrease the longer you hold on to the car. I don't know if that's something to be worried about or not.

Thanks JBM. Good info. It's not a demo (they have about a dozen left). I'm buying and plan to keep it for 4 to 6 years. I will miss the bluetooth and aux jack, but not enough to justify the extra $.

Anyone else have any thoughts?
