I have not posted before, but have been following the forums for some time. Because of the information you provided, I brought home a new Slate Green on Gray EX, no leather, for 23798.63 +TTL (7% sales tax in my county) = 25486.54 OTD. After seeing some of the awesome, below-invoice deals, on the EX-L that some have posted, I thought I would drop some inquiries on my local Honda dealer sites offering 23,300 + TTL on an EX (no leather) to see who would bite. I received and email (not a phone call, in accordance to my online request) from a nice british salesman R. W. ( http://edvoyleshonda.com/Department-Internet.aspx for his full name) of Ed Voyle Honda in Marietta, GA within a few hours saying that the 23,324 including destination but not doc fees was doable. I called him in the afternoon to confirm he had an EX with gray interior in a light color and he confirmed he would hold the keys to the last slate green '07 till I got there. I asked him the doc fees and he quoated a reasonable $498. I say reasonable because the total cost before TTL was 23,822, which is $303 below invoice and including the $2500 factory-to-dealer incentive. He calculated my OTD price right over the phone. We arrived and did the requisite drive with my wife. My wait for finance was 15-20 minutes. I spent all of 15 minutes with Nestor the finance manager who took OFF another $24 because I did not need to pay an emissions charge and the Ody was ready to go with a full tank of gas within 2 hours of the time I first arrived at the dealership. I could have been done sooner, but left to visit a nearby CarMax to get an estimate on selling my Camry outright (left because the wait was too long). I imagine I could have bickered for a few more dollars, but I have no problem with a great dealer keeping a little of the holdback to stay in business, Richard getting his $100 minimum deal, a few dollars for the finance and prep guys. They still have plenty of '07 EX-Ls and Tourings. If you go, tell RW that Inzune referred you and he promised me $100 referral fee! (They sure make that $498 doc go a long way!) Thanks again to everybody for sharing. Email me if I can answer any questions because I do not check the forum often. |

Replying to: kyfdx (Dec 08, 2007 10:01 pm) MSRP: $35490 Vehicle Cost: $32187 Markup: -$3220 Total Selling Price: $28,967 Fees & Insurance: $599.95 (this is added to the "Total Selling Price" - my interpretation is that this is a dealer fee) Take away the $2000 incentive and the markup is $1220. The markup as a percentage taken of the MSRP before destination (because the destination is a fixed cost/charge) is 1220/34895 = 0.03496. In other words, 3.5%. The salesman claimed that $1220 is the amount his management gave him to "play with." Whether that ate into the dealer fee, and the markup (holdback) is less than the $1220, I don't know. On Nov 17 I leased an 08 Touring with similar (relative) pricing. The "markup" for the 08 Touring was $1166.40. |

Hi All, I just purchased a 2007 EXL-RES in Chicago. I received quotes from several area dealers, with the lowest offer coming in at $26,630 including destination. They had the color my wife wanted, so I went in to deal. I went to Carmax on the way and got my trade appraised at $11,500, which I thought was low. The dealer offered me $500 less than CarMax on my trade. I was disappointed with the offer, although with sales tax considerations the dealer offer was a couple hundred ahead. I pushed back and was able to get all-weather floor mats, splash guards and wheel locks thrown in. Not a great concession, but it got the deal done. The only other fees were tax, title and license. I was skeptical about this dealer because he was 300-400 below everyone else, and no one would match his cost. I thought I'd get there and they would have "just sold it" or something like that, but it went pretty smooth. If anyone is interested, they still have a couple more in stock. E-mail me if you want details: space_wrangler at comcast dot net. This forum was extremely helpful. Special thanks to donkeypunch for his various posts on how to solicit quotes. I actually went in looking for $25,400 as my base cost, due to the post he later corrected (stating that price was actually for exl w/o res) so I probably upset some dealers by being unrealistic. Oh well, it wasn't the first and won't be the last time.

Finally bought a new Odyssey EX-L in the Akron, Ohio area without RES/NAV. The base price was $25,782, plus tax, 250 doc, 25.50 lic. How did I do? Did not do so well with my trade in, but do not want to sell it myself or go elsewhere. Does anybody get blue book value for there trade in at a dealership??? Ambro, from Cleveland

Replying to: ambro (Dec 09, 2007 6:43 pm) The only way to come out in decent shape is to sell the vehicle yourself; then, you retain the "profit" that some other dealership would otherwise make. I don't know why more people don't do that... it's not that hard. |
