Bought an Ody EX (cloth) in Tulsa, OK by micman123

This forum has been a great source of information. I just bought an Ody EX (cloth) from Don Carlton Honda for $26,000 out the door (incl. destination and fees) + I got them to throw in the cargo tray I wanted. I explained to our sales rep that we were looking today and that I was planning on emailing a number of dealers for price quotes. He couldn't match the lowest price I'd seen on the boards but the above deal is what I asked for and received. Probably could've gotten a better deal by a few hundred dollars if I'd contacted the other dealers in a 2 hr radius but I really didn't want to mess with it and they had my wife's first color choice. Our sales rep was straight forward with no pressure, no games from him or the business manager and the whole process only took about 2 hours including us looking at different vans on the lot. Definitely a good car buying experience.

Also, 2 dealers confirmed to me that the 2.9 36mo/4.9 48-60mo financing that Honda currently has would continue past 07/05/07 but I have no idea how long it will continue.

Best of luck to those of you still shopping and thank you to everyone that has posted their buying experience here to help others.

tavi -

sounds about right. I made a deal on one today in NJ for 27500, excluding tax, title and tags.

Your deal seems about $300 cheaper, and I struggled to get he deal I made. I think you're golden.

Hi, I was just reading your post and have a very similar situation. How did everything work out? We are looking at the same vehicle and need some advice. Thanks

I live in Sacramento, CA and made our purchase in Alhambra, CA, (450 miles south). Do not go unless you have the deal in writing. I had a real hard time getting the dealer to send me a fax with the specifics of the deal, but once I had it in writing, I hopped on a Southwest flight, arrived at the dealership, and everything went smooth. They did not try and bait and switch me or anything. I would have been very nervous, however, if I did not have a deal in writing.

Your results may vary, of course, but I would do it again - if the deals out of town save enough money to allow you to justify the time, go for it.

Good luck.

We just purchased an LX here in Boulder, CO. I think we got a pretty fair price, but the sales tax just kills us out here.

Price: 22,912 (incl all fees, dest, etc)
Options: 1,406 (full towing package, roof rack)
Tax: 2,006 (our sales tax is a ridiculous 8.25%)
---
OTD: 26,324

greenjdc,

According for the Consumer Reports Price Service (I checked it this morning) for the Odyssey there are currently no dealer incentives or rebates available. Yesterday a local dealer confirmed however, that the low financing rates (2.9% up to 36 months and 4.9% for up to 60 months) have been extended until September 4th.

If there is a change noted on Consumer Reports, I will post it here. I hope this helps.

Yep - went shopping this morning and was told by dealer that $750 they had last week has now gone away. I could not get a decent deal on the EX - I was looking for $24K - $25K and hoping to get OTD with tax (7%) at $26K - $27K and he had me at $29K. He also did not move at all from the price so we said our goodbyes.....hoping for a better deal but may have to wait until some incentives come back in (hopefully !!)

Odyssey EX-L w/RES & Navi - Wash DC metro purchase by joeblow_07

Reply
We just purchased an Odyssey EX-L R&N in the NoVa/DC metro area.

Our OTD price was $32,572.

Our base price of $29,955 was $1,637 below invoice.

According to msg #15453...the math for calculating the dealers cost:

Invoice
+Destination charge
-Cash back from Honda (currently $750)
-Hold Back*
= Dealer’s Cost

*HoldBack = Invoice (not MSRP, no destination charge) * .03

Our deal #'s:
=====================
$31,592 invoice
  +$595 freight charge
  -$750 cash back from Honda
  -$948 hold back
=====================
$30,489 dealer cost

$30,550 was our base price + freight

OR.... $61 over dealer cost!!

===detailed breakout===
$29,955....Base price
$595.........Freight
$329.........Doc processing fee
$1,532......State tax (MD 5%)
$53...........Bus. Lic. tax
$108.........Lic./Title fee
-----------------------
$32,572 OTD price

Notes:
I did most of the work via emails, getting detailed OTD quotes from aprox. 20 DC/Baltimore metro dealers.
The written OTD prices ranged from $32,600 to $34,904 - a $2,304 spread! Most dealers provided the detailed breakouts, some needing to be asked several times for clarifications, etc... those that didn't respond were trash canned.

The hard part of the deal was the trade-in and that's where they made their money. We ended up getting a little more than Kelly Blue book value for GOOD condition: $7,450. This was $450 more than any other Honda dealership offer and $1,450 more than the CARMAX appraisal of $6,000. But, I guessing they'll sell the trade-in for close to $12,000.

Kelly Blue Book Trade-in values were:
Excellent $8,050
Good $7,395
Fair $6,285

I spent several weeks on this purchase. Walked out of 3 Honda dealerships after low trade-in offers, which ranged from $5,200 to $7,000.

Overall, we're satisfied with the deal & the Honda Odyssey. Hope this info helps... Happy Hunting!

Jetzzs,
I hope you purchased yours before the incentive went away. I went on a family vacation that got a little delayed, and missed my chance.

Sienna with its $1500 rebate is looking more attractive now!
