Unlike most buyers who put up the $500 deposit and wait to be called when the ship docks, the Odyssey EX was waiting for me! My dealer got an "extra" allotment of five Odysseys after he sold the initial 18 within 1-1/2 days after landing. They're still getting at least 2K over MSRP (used to be 3-4K in the beginning). The other two also got extras, but the color choices varied. Went over on 4/01 to check on the choices and picked Granite Green after the test drive. Put down my $500 refundable deposit. Closed the deal on 4/14 for MSRP ($26,840) + TTL. Asked for and added a few trim items + extended warranty of 6 yrs./100K for $895. I'm in the insurance business and this was better (price and benefits) than other comparable plans I checked out before-hand: zero deduct + extra services. The dealer made some extra $$$ on the trim items, but so what? They're in business and didn't waste my time. Less than ten minutes in F&I signing documents and giving them the check. BTW, the car still had only 20 miles on the odometer, possibly five more after I put the deposit down. We're surrounded by the big, blue Pacific, so there's no driving over the state-line to find a "better" deal elsewhere. Our tax is around 4.17% (actually a 4% excise tax on businesses, not a true sales tax, so businesses pay tax on the tax). What is it in California, 8%?. If we try the Oregon manuever, Hawaii assesses our rate upon landing unless we can prove it's a USED car! My experience is that two of the dealers here would have priced me at MSRP, the other would have tried for $1K ADM (hey, that's $1.5K less than their usual on this vehicle) before relenting. I went this one because of past dealings and the availability of exactly what I was looking for. BOTTOM LINE: I'm happy and satisfied ..... and not with just the price! |

| I bought '01 Mesa Beige EX 3/29/01 in Atlanta for MSRP plus Doc, TT. I sent an mail to every dealer in Atlanta at the same time and told them that they were competing with each other to sell the Ody at MSRP- No Add on's. They all tried to "sell" the added items but eventually three dealers came around. The difference was the doc fees. I went with the one that was less. Originally no one had the Beige but within a matter of two days all three dealers called me with one "still on the truck." Overall we are pleased. Just need to get the hitch and ATF Cooler (any suggestions?) to tow my pop-up. | |
| If anyone has purchased a 2001 EX at MSRP or below in So. CA., please let me know the dealers name and what you paid for HondaCare warranty, if you purchased it? | |
| I am looking for LX at $1000 below MSRP in VA. Can somebody suggest me the dealer in the area who will sell at this price. I can go to southern VA if I get the right deal. Thanks | |
| Is a definite possibility in Southern Cal. | |

Thought I'd send an update about my potential purchase to date. Heard from my dealer here in Cincinnati Weds. that my GG EX is on the truck and will be in by Friday. They asked me about options, negotiated good price for roof crossbars and Hondacare, gave a little on the cassette player. They threw in the cargo tray. I'll get the mud flaps, nose deflector, and wheel locks from the web. Here are my line item prices: GG EX $750 under MSRP = $26,090 Cassette player = $ 229 Cargo Tray = $ free Cross Bars = $ 79 HondaCare 7/100/$0 ded. = $ 900 Document fee = $ 50 Title = $ 10 Temp Tags = $ 10 Tax -Ohio(6%) = $ 1,641 Loan app fee (6.84%/60mo)= $ 125 I plan on picking it up on Monday. Got my checklist and will report on the pickup experience. |
