You got it. I paid $289. I tried everything I could to negotiate this out, and it has been my experience that dealers in Northern VA will not budge. However, I played hardball on my trade-in and eventually the dealer gave me KBB blue book value dealer trade-in on my car ($500 better than the next closest trade-in value I received other dealers). I at least felt like I made some of that money back..

I really like what the state of Maryland did. They passed legislation that set the limit on these fees at $99. I think more states need to pass similar legislation to protect consumers.

They'll just change the names to sound as if they are bonus items such as etching charges or put them under the heading of computer charges, advertising, etc.

Get quotes from all your local Honda dealers within the 100 mile radius via their websites and/or through Honda website. The first offers I got from them were 200-1500(!) over invoice for the EX-L. Then eventually after dealers started competing with each other for my business, I started getting in the range of 700-1000 below invoice.

Atleast here in Houston almost all of the dealers have a large inventory of Odyssey's on their lots (most of them over 30) and that is probably why they are willing to move on the price. Good luck with your purchase...

buying a 2006 Odyssey this weekend... by dlee3

I've enjoyed reading the posts and info on this site. We've decided this is the car we want, so now it's time to play the dealerships against eachother (Austin, Tx). Are there currently any special finance (not lease) purchase rates going on thru Honda Financial? If so could you please share rate and length of term? Thanks!

There are no special finance rates listed at the Honda website, but I was able to get 5.7% (60 months) through Honda at the end of April. I did mention that my credit union was offering new car loan rates between 5.4-5.8% to the finance manager I worked with so I am not sure if this helped get that rate or not.

Not sure if your dealer or local banks have any special rates available, but I recommend arming yourself with this information.

I thought I read on this forum that there is currently a $500 mfg to dealer incentive for the Odyssey right now? Is this true, or are my hours pouring thru these forums "trying" to make up my mind playing tricks on me? Thanks!

EXACTLY. That is why the ACTUAL PRICE PAID before taxes and state registration fees is the ONLY way people can compare deals from one place to another.
When OTD prices or price after trade-in are stated, there are too many variables for an honest comparison.

It surprises me to read that a 2006 Odyssey can be purchased at or below invoice since the Odyssey is still very much in demand. Honda has made it simple to decide which well equipped Odyssey is just right for a consumer.
Toyota does not seem to be able to generate the enthusiasm for the Sienna that has existed with the Odyssey since the 1999 model appeared. Probably because of the very confusing, long list of options for the Sienna where many options are NOT available for many parts of the country.

I got 4.85% for 60 months through a Credit Union with direct withdrawal. It's 5.35% without.

It was Alliance Credit union pre-approved and Dealer's finance dept has a direct line with them so I setup all account and paper work from Honda dealership without even go to the Credit Union.

It was so low that Honda didn't even try to match with another one.
