How do you like the RES so far? BTW, how is the weather? I am originally from Lakeland (FL), but now live outside DC. Weather here is great. |

I have a quote for 400 below invoice for EX-L and EX-L/RES/N. No other accessories on this vans. I got quotes from 8 Houston area dealers and this was the best offer. Is this a good price? From a comment posted above, someone got $2200 below invoice in Southern Cal for EX-L/RES!! And with accessories! Now this comment has me thinking that 400 below is not that good of a deal. Should I wait until the end of the month? Any pointers would be highly appreciated.

Replying to: rdharams (May 02, 2006 10:51 am) $2200 under invoice on a Honda Odyssey (or any new Honda for that matter) is almost unheard of and is exception more than the rule. At that price the dealer is definitely losing money on the van. You could try, but I seriously doubt you will be able to get a new Odyssey for $2K+ under invoice without some sort of incentive from Honda Corporate. |

Replying to: rdharams (May 02, 2006 10:51 am) IF it happened, it can only be attributed to one or more of the following: A) The dealer misquoted on the internet inquiry (perhaps mistakenly offering an EX price) and stood by the number; B) The vehicle was not a factory EX-L RES but an EX-L that had an aftermarket DVD system installed; and/or C) The vehicle was a demonstrator with some miles on it. I can think of no other reasons why a Honda store would sell a new current MY vehicle at any true loss, much less the significant number claimed by that buyer. If it did happen and neither B or C applied, that buyer got the second best deal I've ever seen claimed (the best being an "A" situation).

Replying to: cccompson (May 02, 2006 2:40 pm) An EX-L RES is an EX-L RES and I don't know in any dealership you can find a non-factory EX-L RES, or they can legally claim it. The sticker WAS on the window, the car WAS real. It's good to have questions when dealing with car dealers, but I don't think we should question something to that extend. You should see the dealership. It's a very large operation. For your assumption C). I already said in my previous message. The car had 6 miles on it when handed to me for test drive. The sales person told me the exact milage the day before. True, odometer could be altered, but why?! I think the legal problems it causes will be far more expensive than a few cars can make up. The dealership claim (you can also see in their showroom) they are the only dealership in California that has Honda President Award 8 times. The bottom line is that I have owned a lot of cars in my life and I know what a new car is. Frankly speaking, I don't think the guy misquoted the price. Because he never mentioned he priced it wrong. Usually, they do claim more credit if they did some favor to you, such as someone mentioned in a message about the cargo net. The sales guy told me he 'threw' it in. I checked car options after reading the message, the message was right - the cargo net is a included feature. In this case, the sales guy played a sales 'trick' on me. But I don't think he would withhold the truth that he did me such a huge favor (misquote) by standing by his 'mistake'. All this sounds like I am representing the dealer. But I am not. I read a lot of messages from this board and I just want to provide some information so everyone knows what he/she should expect to pay when buying this car. I can even provide the sales person's name if anybody is interested. Please provide your email address because sales person's name is not allowed here. I want everyone have a great deal. Personally, I think old fashioned car sales technics is way out dated. For a consumer, Internet sales should be the only way to buy a car. I bought my last car (BMW 530) the same way: Email to dealers, got an acceptable price, went in, signed contract, and left with the car within a couple of hours. Good luck everyone.

Replying to: sgolvan (May 02, 2006 5:07 pm) My recommendation to people on this board is to do exactly what you and I did. Email, or call as many dealers as you can at the end of the month and look for the best deal. As cccompson eluded to (this has happened to me) sometimes dealers will quote you an absurd price just to get you in the door, and later claim it was a mistake (if you notice in these dealer quotes all of them have language to protect themselves from this). But if people expect to pay $2k+ UNDER invoice on a brand new (non-demo) Odyssey (with no rebates), then they better be willing to wait a long time... Buying an Odyssey for any $$ amount under invoice is a good deal, and it was not long ago where folks were lucky to get an Odyssey for $1K OVER invoice.... |

| I just noticed that the EX-L RES list as $29146 at Carsdirect.com. That's $550 below invoice (minus $550 destination). I'm sure you can do much better through Internet sales department through dealers. They usually beat Carsdirect price by quite a margin. | |

| If you live in Southern California, I think $28500 is definitely attainable. My wife was casually 'fishing' for quote last week because we don't really need an extra car. She easily got $28500 price quote based on the color of our choice. Than we got this 'supper' quote. As I indicated in my previous message. If you are shooting for $500 under invoice, you don't need to go through this 'painful' process. Go directly to carsdirect.com and you get $550 under invoice right away. | |
