Odyssey at MSRP w/free accessories in OR/WA area by shelleya

I have been following this town hall discussion weekly for the past six months and have gleaned a lot of useful information! Wanting to get the best price possible I made notes of what others had paid for the Odyssey and the accessories. I realized that the only people paying under MSRP were those who bought their Odysseys in OH, KY, IL, IN, TN and a couple of other mid-eastern states. No one on the West Coast seemed to be getting any deals! I called at least 13 dealerships within a 200 mile radius of Vancouver WA. All but two dealerships laughed at me when I told them I wanted to pay (for an EX) MSRP, $875.00 for 7/100,000 warranty, + free cassette player & air deflector. The two dealerships who said that would be possible told me they presold and I would have to wait 1-4 months for the vehicle. I told them to call me if something fell through and two weeks later got a call from Thomas Motors in The Dalles OR. They told me they had one in, (I only wanted GG) but without my free accessories. I told them I was only interested in buying with those free accessories. They called me back two hours later and agreed to my terms! I should have asked for the Cargo Tray too, they might have given it to me. We test drove the Granite Green EX Odyssey and it had no pull to one side or another (as others have complained), heard no sloshing gas, and the doors worked beautifully! They installed the cassette player and air deflector while we signed the papers and we were on our way! No haggling or high pressured sales for rust proofing! (Robbieautobytel.net) Robbie called a couple of days later and said they have another Odyssey in if I knew of anyone who was interested! We had a great experience and the way I see it, with $600.00 of free accessories, its like $600.00 under MSRP and I feel like we got as good of deal as those buyers in OH and KY! I ordered a Cargo Tray ($57) and Splash Guards ($57) through Hondaparts4you.com and they have free shipping! I've seen those for alot more other places and with huge shipping costs added on. The other dealer ship that was willing to work with me was in Olympia WA called Capitol Honda or Capitol City Honda. Every other dealership I called from Olympia WA to Corvallis OR said I would never find anyone to meet my terms and that I was out of line. I also found a broker in the Vancouver, WA area who goes to wholesale auctions and says he can find minivans less than a year old and at least five thousand dollars cheaper than new. Got my loan through Peoplefirst.com for 6.95%. Thanks to all who have posted what you paid, I couldn't have done it without your help!!!

Why is it that regardless of how far back in posts one goes there is never any mention of a trade in ? If two people for the sake of an arguement could trade the same vehicle and one was allowed $5200 and the other was allowed $3700 it cannot be said if everything else was the same that both paid the same for an ODY. The only meanful info on what was paid in my opinion are those that are bought outright and this should be mentioned in the post. Then it could be said that the bottom line is truly what was paid and the MSRP was where one started without being unduly influenced by a variable later on. Would appreciate your comments if I did not put it in the proper perspective.

LX vs. EX......dx6t by masshoosier

"The FEELING you get when you drive an EX????

Other than the alloy rims what performance qualities are you talking about? The power driver seat? The new LX seat adjusts the same way.

My van drives great on those steel rims, no shimmys whatsoever.

Nothing on your list points to performance.

Since traction control was added to the LX the extras(alloy rims being the exception) on the EX are cosmetic or creature comforts. Not that there is anything wrong with that. You do get a fair $2500 worth of them. Roof rack? Only functional if you use it, something you need to ask yourself before buying and then its only what, $400 or so too add if you go the LX route, cheaper if your a little handy.

I'm still curious about this "Feeling". Sounds like a status feeling to me. But hey, if thats what your into, nothing wrong with that either.....to each is his/her own.

I have had no luck in the Bay Area so I am starting my fax quest tomorrow. I plan to offer MSRP right up front. I have no trade, I have it sold privately already. The two dealers I visited yesterday were not willing to talk price, even though they had agreed to on the phone. The first appointment cancelled after we arrived and the second refused to talk price, even considering I was willing to pay MSRP on the next available car.

I am also considering one of the internet services. I am afraid most of them look like they are just representing one dealer. Some of the other online services post prices a lot more than MSRP. I'll try the faxes first to see what happens.

Keep in mind that we are talking about Minivan here, not sports car. Cosmetic or creature comforts ARE important here. BTW I ordered a LX but end up with a EX partially because I heard from a friend who work for Honda that the alloy rims are necessary for Ody because of the weight.

LX vs. EX again by dz6t

There is another reason for me to buy a EX: I want a totally factory assemble van. All options are dealer installed, I don't trust those dealers. I want keyless remote entry and for LX, it is a dealer installed option. I have seen a silver LX with dealer installed keyless/alarm, the job was poorly done.

OD so far no one has answered my question that " Has anyone ever paid MSRP in LA area?" I read ray bear's multiple messages regarding MSRP in LA. But no one else replied yet. I have tried LiquidPirce.com which is one of the on-line pricing site listed on Edumunds.com. I had one quote for a LX which was exactly MSRP a few weeks ago, but it was a GA color and I am looking for S. Since it was the first quote I got, I didn't jump on it and accept the bid. Then I got a 2nd quote for a AS EX a week later. It was $1000 above MSRP ($27840.- which is almost $4000.- above invoice listed on Edumunds.com). I added the dealer hold back 2% (which is my guess) and totaled about $4500.- profit for dealer on this van. I didn't jump on the 2nd one either. Too bad Edmunds took the Dealer hold back list off their site now. Must be the PRESSURE from Advertiser. Anyway I submitted another quote request for a AS EX thru LiquidPrice.com. So far I haven't gotten any bid yet. Every quote request only lasts for 48 hours LiquidPrice.com. I will keep you posted, so soon as I got anything in the email. I tried Autobytel.com before I purchased my Toyota Avalon 1997. All I got was some local dealers called me and promised to give me a good deal but I have to go to their dealerships to WORK OUT the detail price. I balked on all those dealer' call. I don't know whether Autobytel has improved or not since 1997. This time I haven't tried any of those web sites yet. I liked LiquidPrice.com policy that I will not get any dealer's phone call unless I accept the bidding price, which works very good with me.
I read way back a few weeks ago some guy mentioned LA dealers asks above MSRP and some San Diego dealer is willing to deal at MSRP. But he or she didn't post how much he or she paid at which dealership. I think maybe just some SD dealer's fake post and wants LA people to go down south to buy there. Which I won't mind to take a few hours drive and pick up a minivan there if I can get it at MSRP.
Anyway good luck to your shopping at Bay area. I hope my 93 Mercury Villager (which has 169,000 miles on it) will hold together till I get a good deal on new Odyssey.

Sorry about mis-spelling words in my message. I tried to use the spell check and goofed. Those color Code GA s/b GG and AS or S s/b: SS.
