I bought an EX in Dallas on Saturday - see my post #12226. I had 9 quotes via email that were all basically the same. My approach was to call my dealer of preference (the closest one to my house) and tell them where they stood relative to the other quotes, and I told them I would buy today if they could meet my price of X (we had flexibility on delivery time and color). The first dealer I called didn't, and the second dealer I called did. Yes, I believe you can negotiate - I doubt they emailed you with their best and final offer.

Phoenix area EX-L by rx80vette

Came home yesterday with an EX-L from Tempe Honda. Price was $28258 (invoice) and OTD was $31410. Taxes, registration, and doc fees are high here in AZ. That did include splash guards, door edge guards, and window tint. No trade. We had already test driven at Honda Cars of Mesa, which also treated us exceptionally well. They had given us a nearly identical offer but when it came time to decide they didn't have the car in stock, and we decided not to wait. After test driving and making up our minds what we wanted, we emailed six dealers and after some persistence got four legitimate offers. We dealt with them completely by phone and email, and only spent about 1-1/2 hours at the dealer doing a final test drive, paperwork, and making sure we knew how to operate the features. Excellent experience. Lot's of Odysseys to choose from right now in AZ. Thanks to all the other posters who helped us make informed negotiations .

thanks, zebra5.
So far, the quote difference between the highest and the lowest is about $1000. I would visit the lowest one first and see what they can do. btw, there is one dealer that says they will beat other's offer by $100. Their OTD quote is $636 more than the lowest OTD. Do you think they will still do the business by beating that by $100?

I think there is a good chance they will, if the price you're targeting is above invoice less the holdback.

I had a similar promise from the dealer I purchased from "to beat - not just meet - the lowest offered price." With that in hand, I decided to visit them only after I first visited the dealer closest to my house. I think doing that gave more credence to my discussions with the second dealer, since I had maintained I would purchase that day only if I could meet my price target (which was $500 lower than my lowest email quote, and to match my trade-in offer I'd received from Carmax). Otherwise I was willing to wait. I suspect in a market with lots of Honda competition, they'd rather not see you walk off the lot.

Good luck, and send me half the money you save.

Don't spend more than one miniute "negatiating" for $100 on a $30,000 vehicle.

Well, my wife and I - faced with a $2,200 repair bill on her '98 Malibu - are going to go hunting for an Ody this evening. We're going to look for a Touring with RES/Nav, in green, and we've got a AAA certificate that's supposed to guarantee $1,000 below MSRP at Bill Page Honda in Falls Church, VA. Does anyone have any experience with that dealership? Does anyone think we can do better on the price without going out of Northern VA?

You can do much better than $1000 off MSRP although you may have to go outside of Northern VA. There have been some recent reports of good prices in PA. The same vehicle is readily available in Ohio (and elsewhere) for about $3500 less than you're talking about.

Well, I discovered that the $1000 off MSRP was no good on my own while gathering internet quotes. We ended up getting it for $36,844 plus taxes/title/etc - that's for the Touring with RES/Navi in the color we wanted. We got it from Hendrick Honda in Woodbridge, VA. The deal was fairly quick and mostly painless. We left the van at the dealership to get fully cleaned up and get the paint sealant package (I know, I know, but my wife wanted it) installed. We pick it up tonight. It did NOT have the humming sound complained about in several Ody threads. I'll report on the ownership experience more thoroughly later - we're driving to Delaware tmw for Easter and will be playing with our new Ody the whole way.

Just bought a Silver Pearl EXL w/RES & NAVI for $32000 in PA. Gave me Kelly Blue Book "excellent" trade-in value for my Accord.

As far as the humming is concerned, we didn't notice the noise during a 1/2 hour test drive. Low and behold while driving home from the dealship, the humming noise appeared at 2000 rpm.

I'm too impressed with the vehicle right now to get upset. Probably will join the complainers shortly.

EXL-R/N in Southern California by dartanyan

I think it is my turn to return the favor. I live in sunny Southern California, LA County. I have been watching this forum for a long time.
I picked up my Odyssey last Monday and share it with you all.
Ok, here my story goes. I won’t make all the details.

First I went to Honda website and requested quotes for EXL R/N from all 50 dealers in So. CA. They were exactly 50 within 100 miles radius.

Second, I got about 45 quotes, and picked the best quote (It was $31500 including only destination).

Third, To make deal simple, I estimated the total out the door price $34,098($31500 + 8.25%tax, did not add any other fees)

Fourth, I emailed them back saying that I want to pay OTD $34,000 for silver EXL R/N.
No games, No surprises. Whoever takes my offer first, I will be there it next day …… something like this…… Actually at first, I got greedy, and added a bunch of accessories ($2000 worth), then later I removed all the big ones.

Fifth, most of them emailed me back and could not do it. Some gave me their best offers. They said the number is unrealistic, but I just need one…. Fladeboe Honda, Irvine emailed me back and said they would do it, but they have to do dealer exchange for Silver color.

Sixth, I made one mistake here. I thought the deal has been already finished and sent them all the financial info. Salesman called me back and said it will cost $400 more, because the exchange will cost them $400. I would not know that is the truth or not. I think he knew that they got the best deal and could get more but it was still better than other dealers.

Final OTD price was $34400 with Mudguards, Cargo tray, wheel locks.
I think this method really work! You calculate the best deal, and let them compete.
You don’t have to go back and forth between two dealers.
It just took me 3 day to set the deal; 1. Request Quotes 2. Send my offer 3. Pick up
Of course, sending 50 emails twice was not easy, but it definitely worth it.
Good luck on your purchase!
