Quote from an internet sales associate in Western Washington State: 2006 Honda Odyssey Touring w/NAV and RES--$36,447 The following Add-Ons: Air Deflector---$263 Door Edge Guards--$76 Door Visors--$223 Moon Roof Visor--$172 Splash Guards--$165 3rd Row Sunshade--$281 IPOD Attachment--$499 Am I crazy for thinking that I can get this car (as listed above) for $39K out the door (TTL included)? The prices on the add ons are as much as double the Honda Web Site Price. Let me know what you think or have experienced. Thanks. |

The consumer reports car buying kit can be found on the consumer reports web site and it is $40.00. It is a 3 month access to a service that provides msrp, invoice, and dealer prices as well as special dealer and customer incentives. The bottom line c.r. price is the price - dealer incentives and holdback. The dealer price on an odyssey ex-l is 27,434 as compared to the invoice price of 28,358. They still make money on a below invoice deal. I made at least 10 times that $40.00 back by having the holdback info. I also made the deal on the second to last day of a short month if there is any truth to the last day being the best day to get a good price. I like c.r., you can also get a 1 year subscrition to their regular web site for $20.00 after you get the car buying kit. It is well worth the $40.00. FYI lx= 22,701, ex=25,350, ex-l=27,434, ex-l dvd=28,824, ex-l dvd nav 30,735, touring 32,473, touring dvd nav = 34,384

PLEASE ADVICE....I am in the market to buy a VAN rightaway... " Start with the Honda site. The Honda dealers need to pass certain qualifications in order for them to be listed as an Internet dealership. Thats one way, another way is to Google a search term, like 'Honda Dealers in Maryland' or whatever your state is...if you know the dealership then Google that to get their specific website URL. Good luck with your purchase. |

Replying to: thebill (Feb 27, 2006 2:26 pm) For me, the choice was simple. For me to go to OH, I save a couple thousand dollars, not a "couple hundred of bucks." The lowest quote that I received for 06 EXL RES/NAV in VA/MD/DC was $33,674 (vehicle only). Most dealers here are more firm with their prices. Considering I paid $30,743 (vehicle only), it was well worth going there. Now I did get a quote of $30,843 from Crystal Lake Honda in ILL, and I am glad that I did. Mike Pruitt Honda in OH matched that price instantly. With that quote in hand, I tried to get a dealership in PA to match that price (about 3 hour drive), but no dealership would. Because I knew dealership in this area would not move on their prices, I purchased the vehicle from Mike Pruitt. It was a game to me, but it was worth it because I saved $2000 - 3000. To others forum dwellers living in California or Hawaii or Alaska, I can clearly see your argument...but for me, the choice was simple. |

I do all of the required servicing myself. 2) My local dealer has a poor sales philosophy (in my opinion). In the 5 years that I have lived near them I have bought 4 NEW Hondas. I always go to them first but they are basically MSRP only. If I ask for a discount the salesperson will present it to the manager, and then the manager yells at the salesperson (seemingly making sure we can hear). They told us once that all of the Richmond VA Honda dealers have agreed to not undersell each other. 3) I don't mind taking a road trip and having some fun with it. For example, this weekend we drove 100+ miles to Landmark Honda to check out their deals. In the end my wife decided not to get a new van this weekend (her 2001 is like new and has been trouble free). However, on the trip we did some shopping and ate at some restaurants that were new to us. Our kids watch movies and read books in the car, and love shopping and eating out so it is fun for all. 4) Usually when I make the trip I am saving more than $500. I travel for the deals like Landmark Honda had this weekend (~$500 below invoice and no processing fee which is unheard of in Virginia). Obviously I'm not the kind of buyer you would want at your dealership, but hopefully this helps you understand better. Tom in Virginia

"lx= 22,701, ex=25,350, ex-l=27,434, ex-l dvd=28,824, ex-l dvd nav 30,735, touring 32,473, touring dvd nav = 34,384" After I know these prices do I need to go and signup for the CR website or am I ok to use these prices and invoice as a benchmark for a gooooood deaaaaal. ------------------------------------------------------ Guys, I have gone to the Honda Website on Saturday and requested quotes from 7 dealerships (Including Crystal Lake HOnda in Chicago). I have received responses only from 2 so far. Just wanted to check with the forum if that is normal and they take time to get back or is it because it is the month end or they just don't like me Should I send another quote request to the same dealerships??? |
