SC Odyssey EX-L with RES by littleaiken

Thanks to all that posted to this forum before me. I read the forum over the past couple of weeks and listened to the lessons learned from those that purchased an Odyssey. The information saved me thousands of dollars . I followed the advice of many in the forum and requested internet quotes from a number of dealers within 100 miles of my home town (Aiken SC). Several responded with specific quotes for the model I desired. Some never responded. However, armed with the available information I went to my local dealership this weekend and test drove the van. They had the color we wanted on the lot with the desired options. I did not think we would ever agree on a price as we started more than $5,000 apart . But in the end, I came up $490 and the dealership came down the rest. While I did not get $400 above invoice, I was still pleased with the results. I also had a quote from Bernardi Honda on a 7 year/ 120,000 mile $0 deductible Honda Care warranty in hand when I went to the dealer.

Here is the deal I got after about 90 minutes of negotiations:

Base Price EX-L with RES including Destination fee, cargo tray, splash guards and wheel locks: $30, 890.00
Admin Fee: $199.50 (did not like it but agreed to pay it)
SC Sales Tax $300.00 (capped at $300 by state law)
Tag Transfer Fee $25 (state fee)
Extended Warranty $1,000.00 (a couple of hundred better than Bernardi)

Total out the Door $32,414.50

I did have a trade-in but worked that out after agreeing to the above.

Purchased a 2006 in dealer stock silver/gray leather touring model with nav and entertainment on 10/21/05 from Jacobs Twin Honda in Chicago. We told the sales manager we found a dealer that was willing to sell at invoice and if he could beat that deal. He sold it to us at 100.00 below invoice. Beautiful deal: no haggling no financing or trade and no dealer add ons. They didn't even try to sell us extended warranty.

dealguy,
Try Mainline Honda in Philly. They are selling for invoice+$700 and no additional fees. If you can go to Ohio, try Hugh White honda. They are selling for invoice + $100 doc fee.

Can you tell me your purchase price (before Tax, Title, Liscence)? Does it come with any extra (mudguard, wheel lock, etc.) Sometimes, the invoice price varies and we don't know if additional price has been added to invoice.

We got our 2006 EX-L in the Chicago area for $309 under the standard invoice price quoted on most websites, also with no trade-in, financing, add-ons (other than the foglights and mudguards I requested) or extended warranty. For some reason, Chicago seems to be pretty competitive for Odysseys.

I too live in the Chicago area. I am in the market for the same model. EXL RES. What was the invoice price on your model?

dcman2,

Time was of the essence for me -- business trips later this week and next and our leased Passat Wagon must be returned next week; wife would have killed me if I'd stranded her with no car! Still, I wish I could have expanded my search all the way to Philly to get that deal!

Fact that dealers in a city only a few hours away from DC would charge thousands of dollars less than dealers here really blows my mind. I hope all DC-area Odyssey buyers will read this and similar boards and bring their business to Baltimore and Philly area dealers. May the DC area dealers choke on their inventory!

The dealer gave you that "invoice" price because he was making a nice profit(~$400) on the mudguards and foglights.

Except that the offer was made without being dependent on my request for foglights and mudguards. Yes, I realize I could have saved $350 by doing it myself with discount Honda parts from the internet. The foglight install is apparently somewhat complex, so I'd risk of messing up my van, plus I would forfeit the factory warranty included if the dealer does the install. I also called around to other dealers before shopping for the van. The best price quoted in my area was just under $100 less including the required 2-3 hours of labor, with a parts pricematch to an online dealer.

Since I'm not that handy, even an extra $100 seemed like a no-brainer and saved at least that much money in my time. YMMV.
