2006 Odyssey EX-L in Oklahoma by edxs

I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma area. I started looking for an Odyssey EX-L in July. We almost purchased a 2005 EX-L from a local Honda in late July, but the car had almost 300 miles on it so we decided to wait for 2006 models.

I sent emails to several Honda dealers around Tulsa area. I know there is a Honda dealer in Bartlesville which has very competitive prices on their web site. Although I had some bad experiences with the dealer back in 2002 when I was buying my CR-V, but I know at least I can use their prices to deal with other dealers.

Anyhow, a Honda dealer in Oklahoma City (about 120 miles from Tulsa) returned my email, offered $1,000 off MSRP and asked how much do I want to pay for 2006 EX-L. I said $28,600. That was in mid August. This Tuesday their Internet Sales Manager sent me an email asking me if I was still looking for an Odyssey. I said yes and he offered $28,908 this time, but the price is only good by Friday 9/30.

I contacted a local Honda dealer and told them about the offer. They said they would match the price. I’d rather buy a car from a local dealer, so I emailed the dealer in OKC and told them about it. The OKC dealer quickly slashed $500 dollars and offered me $28,399. I called the local dealer and they said they would match whatever the OKC dealer offers.

This morning, my wife went to the local dealer to pick the color and pay the deposit. To our surprise, when my wife showed the local dealer the new offer, the Sales Manager was very unhappy and would not change the price and walked away, the other salesman who had offered us to match the new OKC dealer’s deal was “in a meeting” and “will be available in 10 minutes”. My wife waited for more than 10 minutes and decided to leave.

So I called the OKC dealer and gave him my credit card for deposit. I asked one of my friends in OKC to go to the dealership to check the vehicle. The color we picked is Ocean Mist and the vehicle had 6.7 miles on its odometer.

Our mini van will be delivered tonight. The dealer will send two drivers, one drives my new EX-L and other follows him so that he can take him back to Oklahoma City.

The final price I would pay for the van is $28,598.50, this includes their “processing fees”. I know I could have them to wave it if I play some games, but I am tired of it and it is what I thought a fair price.

Folks, this is my experiences of buying 2006 EX-L. Hope it would help those who live in sooner state.

I figured out, that you have to register as an owner on the Honda web site & can then track your vehicle

2006 EX-L in Southern NJ on 29 Sep (edited) by lifesanodyssey

Thank you all for posting in these forums. You have saved me THOUSANDS. My wife and I shopped every minivan manufacturer we could find; the Odyssey was head and shoulders above any other. We ended our search at the Honda dealer and contrary to my intentions, left the dealer with a quote. I rushed home to check Edmunds and stumbled accross these forums. I soon realized the quote I was given was no real bargain (31000 incuding 495 in dealer crap and dest fee vs 31,800 msrp). When the salesman called the next day I told him to sharpen his pencil; he came back with 30500. After reading your collective experiences, I held out for 29000 plus ttl, out the door (doc fees were $159). I probably could have done better, but not much better, especially in Southern Jersey. BTW, they wanted $1539 for the extended warranty (60/100000; $100 deductible). I got it for 850, then went another $100 to get the deductible to ZERO. Took my guidance on that from another forum on Edmunds. So... THANK YOU EVERYBODY. Your comments really helped me get what I feel was a good deal and a great experience.

Sent couple of emails to all the dealers and got quotes and asking each one of them to beat the lowest price i got, so finally I purchased today for $28058 including destination charge. It was smooth. Sales manager was telling me he is just making 100$ on it, dont know if it is true. total OTD price was $30550.

Thanks to everybody and the forum.

That dealership is owned by Amish. Translation=not greedy. I got a great price and considered buying there since I had a family visit due in the area. Congrats on your great price and buying experience.

2006 EXL Res/Nav - Central Texas by jball1

Purchased a 2006 Slate Green Metallic/Olive interior with RES/NAV for 32,947 + TTL.

I live in Austin and sent internet quote requests to dealers from San Antonio, Houston, Dallas and in between. Most quotes were MSRP, or 300-500 below MSRP. Allen Honda in College Station had quote of 32,947 which I thought was fair so I accepted it without further negotiation as I was tired of several months of looking and dealing with local dealer Classic Honda. I made the 180 mile round trip to College Station, had the van in 20 minutes and had the Navigation system direct me home.

Other Notes:
Classic Honda Round Rock - Took our initial test drives in the 2005 Odyssey earlier in the year with this dealer and wanted to make purchase from them. In early August we attempted purchase the 2005, They started out over MSRP. I had all my info from this site and began negotiations. After an hour of frustration their best price was 33,900. Luckily we walked and made the purchase of the 2006 less than 2 months later for $1k less.

1st Texas Honda Austin would not provide internet quote or phone quote.
